Ok. So yeah. Bauhaus (and Peter Murphy solo) is better.
But Love and Rockets are still good.
i wanted to like them and a lot of my friends did i'm guessing because they had some commercial success Bauhaus never had
just always seemed like they were covering songs and styles to me
if you knew who Peter Murphy was at the time you were in the 1% of music fans because they were basically a strange secret
Ash did have the cool Simon Gallup hair going though!
I only knew about Bauhaus because I dated some creepy goth girl from Claremont in 84. She had one cassette in her Walkman - one side was Bauhaus & the other side was Cocteau Twins. That relationship wasn't going to survive my Skynyrd & Who fixations....
this actually explains a lot
I know a dude who grew up listening to leo sayer type of music.
Made me think thay maybe deep down he wasn't as bad guy because of the sad music he listened to.
Like I had hope he would change.
He has a rep as a squeaky clean goody two shoes.
A carefully crafted rep filled with friends that will vouch for his character.
I loved his father.
His father died this morning.
Conveniently and quietly made out if sight thanks to the protocols of the elders of covid.
Now he has nobody to protect him.
Because friends flee when you in danger.
And if you fucked over your family you gonna wish boulders would fall from the sky and break your face so nobody can look you in the eye.
Because we don't know any lawyers.
those aren’t friends
those are acquaintances who are using you to get something they want
real friends don’t bail
Then they are family
on this we agree
some family aren’t real friends
honestly my family is huge and they are blood but not friends
too much judgement and familiarity breeds contempt
i don't have issues w them or their lives at all but many times feel a seething thing that borders on hatred
yet they always seem to want to smile, hug and pretend like they don't
i loathe that
Wrapping up a week on the big island with my wife and kids... a long needed vacation that was put off a couple years due to the pandemic. Anyhow, when I was at the rental car counter the lady told me that gas here averages $5.59. I was shocked, since I pay over $7 at home for diesel (and that's even lower than my friends who are in the heart of the Bay Area). I expressed my surprise - said I always thought Hawaii had the highest gas prices in the country. She said it used to be, but California passed them a couple years ago.
Do liberals not see what the political leaders in California are doing to our economy? Do they not get that Pelosi, Feinstein, and Newsom's net worths have ballooned while they've been in office? Sure, many of them drive EV's and may not GAF, but gas price gouging is not the only negative effect of years of democrat control of this state. Crime, homelessness... I can go on and on but I guess it's okay because at least our state has made great strides in recognizing transgender youth.
I just don't get it. I'm sure Newsom will win in a landslide again this Nov. Will the "woke" ever actually wake up?
Was a long time ago I first heard "by any means necessary ".
This is all intentional and the people who vote for it are complicit liars who believe it will all end up in a green deal world of salads and suns.
Anything else is far right racist bigotry.
Henry Ford used to make the same argument back when he was Elon musk and was about to be canceled.
He didn't want to fall off the same cliff uncle Sam pushed the Indians off of.
Specially since uncle Sam already holding on to the edge for dear life.
Promisi to do whatever the new bully demands.
New York was founded by ancient european secret societies and modern organized crime from the south of italy.
California was founded by reorganized new york Satanists and old school holy inquisitors from the south of spain.
This the way the play plays.
If it played the other way we would all still be riding on trains burning snakes of coal.
Which will probably be back again by the time we go away.
Luckily there's already a ton of Asians here.
And they the ones that build the railroads and all our nice toys.
Like the dwarves.
Living on the otherside of the world.
Which is what they mean to say when they say that dwarves live underground.
You don't see them but they all around working hard.
Then one day they all go on vacation to the surface and the goths get to kick em around for sport.
Malclolm X, bro.
Liked Malcolm IX better.
nothing frightening about this
Is there a prompt to tell him his diaper is full?
So, if I were not a white man, and if I were indeed a person of color, and I wanted to come up with an icon or something physical to represent the dignity & advancement of the greatness of my people... would I not opt for something which was equally dignified and magnificent to encompass and embody the superbity of my beloved Black race?
You'd think, right? I mean ... perhaps a statue of a man and a woman of the African race, breaking the shackles of thick chains which have held them back for so many generations, now in broken pieces at our feet... with me and my beautiful woman standing astride those emblems of hatred and control with the victory of human freedom shining in our eyes!!!!
Or I could go with this ....
Let's be honest... The first time you saw this picture, didn't you think it was generated by some Klan member or some fat white bigot or maybe the Babylon Bee?
And Jesus wept.
the backlash from the incessant pandering will come
So as a white guy what would you choose as a monument to your people?
I guarantee you that if you ask a black guys opinion on what a monument for white people should look like it would be vastly different.
Then again art is also about what's insjde the beholders eye.
To many blacks wakanda is that greatness you speak of.
To others it's tacky.
Like if you go to Mexico and go into a regular home and they ask you what you want to eat and you ask for a burrito they will look at you sideways.
But we think that a burrito is a Mexican icon. But if you go to a Mexican moms house she would most likely offer you a torta aka mexican sandwich.
Torta also slang for pussy.
As is taco.
And almost half of the words.
Look at you with your red herring. I notice the afro pick's racist & derivative imagery is not a part of your rant here. That's because it's indefensible. But ok ... I'll address the questions then ...
I wouldn't choose nor want a monument to my people. We already have a lady in NY Harbor if we need a statue. Besides, "my people"are Americans and we built a nation and we are all colors and faiths anyway. Some fled here & some were dragged here. Most don't look like me. And that's fine.
And again ... that afro pick is a shitty and hilariously offensive way to imbue black pride. Any African American who takes pride in it is insufferable ignorant and suspect in their integrity.
And when you're wrong, Rube, you're way wrong. I know black folks and arguably more than you. After 25 years in education, the first two in Compton ... I'm certain that Afro pick insults them. I know because I've spoken to them about it already. Specifically, that's three Blacks, two men and a woman. All are democrats and they don't fit the BLM lie profile nor the Hollywood image of "blackish." They know Kwanzaa is horsehit and they know white liberals are more dangerous than the entire KKK membership. MLK knew it. He even said so from Birmingham jail. My teaching mentor, my childhood best friend, my youngest daughter's godparents, and a dozen former colleagues at old jobs I've worked in schools and hotels ... all are a text or phone call away. My neighbors two doors down here in Kentucky and two teachers at my current job .... the coach of my oldest's soccer team ... black people all.
Then another 60 or so black men and women I've taught that I wrote letters for to get into college, or whose parents had me to dinner in their homes. ... that list of black folks who know me is longer than Biden and Pelosi and you think it is. And while the Dems & the MSM want to think an afro pick captures the identity & value of the black experience .... well, I'll just leave that curve ball over the middle of the plate there...
Get my point, Rube? Don't play that tired ass race card on me. I'm not that honky with 'A black friend' ... I've got friends and associates and they are of various walks of life. And not one I still call friend thinks an afro pick is for anything other than picking out an afro. That's it.
So don't pick nits (or afros) on this issue. This isn't about monuments to whitey. I don't want one and no honky I know wants one. And leave burritos and tortas out of this, brother. Keep your focus. Stick to the topic.
Sometimes, Rube, your attention span is worse than a ferret on a double espresso.
