Back in the day, my best friend at the time, refused to pay. Was embroiled in bs for years.
It did not end well for him at all.
He was dogged his whole life by the IRS, inescapably. Relentlessly.
He lives in FL now, and everything is in his 2nd wife's name, everything, and is by necessity, not by planned strategy.

 

i've been dogged by the BOE for most of mine
and i've had to do what your friend did w my first and only wife
they just made shit up and my atty stroked them out for a decade while i made major changes in real estate and business
literally crushed a 40 year business and kept their foot on its throat on shit they made up in back to back audits
my mom was church friends w the state auditors mom and i got a phone call w him and he basically said nothing he can do
these are lethal entities w free reign to steal whatever they please
unless you have flawless books and a battery of accountants and attorneys on hand your time is coming
in LA we basically have donut shops, liquor stores and nail shops as every other type of business has been laid waste to
