I remember hearing Kemp's words many times, especially after the ankle injury recently.

Hoping for Hanley's quick return, LA waits on MRI
    By Chad Thornburg / MLB.com | 8/6/2013 12:35am ET

ST. LOUIS -- The Dodgers are holding off on an MRI exam for Hanley Ramirez, and Dodgers manager Don Mattingly is optimistic his shortstop won't miss much time with a jammed right shoulder.

"It's way better than yesterday, so that's good news," Ramirez said. "I just want to get the inflammation and the stiffness out of there right now and see how I feel after that."

Mattingly said the Dodgers intend to wait at least 24 hours before the MRI because the dye used to enhance the image could potentially increase swelling in his shoulder.

"He felt a whole lot better this morning," Mattingly said. "I think the good thing from our standpoint was [when] he had a similar injury this winter in the Dominican [Republic], he was hitting within four days. He feels like this is less than that. That's all we have to go by. His movement is a lot better today than yesterday, and we'll probably even know more by the end of the day."

    • Mattingly said he talked to Ramirez, who jammed his right shoulder when he tumbled into the stands after a catch Sunday against the Cubs, and Ramirez said he thought he could be back within the week. "I think it's bruised right now," Mattingly said. "We're trying to wait 24 hours and then we'll see. We're fairly optimistic."

ST. LOUIS -- Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Hanley Ramirez did not play Tuesday after jamming his right shoulder Sunday, but Dodgers manager Don Mattingly didn't think he would be sidelined long.

"He looked really good again today, even better than yesterday," Mattingly said. "So it's still encouraging. There are no plans for an MRI. As long as he keeps going forward like this there won't be an MRI. If he stalls and all of a sudden is not getting any better and seems to be stuck somewhere, we'll do it."

Mattingly didn't have a timetable on a return for Ramirez, who went through a workout before Tuesday's game. Ramirez said he felt good after going through a workout Monday night.

"I feel better," Ramirez said. "My range of motion is better. It's way better than yesterday, but it's day-to-day right now."

Mattingly agreed that Ramirez's injury was day-to-day and didn't rule him out returning within the week.

"We're basing a lot of this off of how he's feeling and how he's moving his arm," Mattingly said. "His range of motion has gotten a lot better. He had a similar injury in the Dominican Republic and he feels like it's the same thing and that this feels better than that. As long as he doesn't stall and continues to get more range of motion with his arm, we'll keep going with this."

Ramirez doubtful, but might pinch hit
    By Arash Markazi | ESPNLosAngeles.com
    Updated: August 8, 2013, 12:50 AM ET

ST. LOUIS -- Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Hanley Ramirez could pinch hit this week and will likely avoid a trip to the disabled list, Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said Wednesday.

Ramirez has been sidelined since jamming his right shoulder while tumbling into the stands after a catch on Sunday.

"He looks good," Mattingly said. "Talking to the medical department, Hanley just keeps advancing. He's moving around today even better than yesterday. I would think if this keeps going like this he will try to hit a ball off a tee or something today. He'll try to do some baseball stuff today. How far that goes, we don't know. Hanley just keeps getting better. We're feeling a lot more confident that it's not going to be a DL. We're hoping sooner than later."

When asked if Ramirez would be available Wednesday or Thursday against the St. Louis Cardinals, Mattingly wouldn't rule him out. "He's probably not," Mattingly said. "He'd be doubtful on the NFL scale today but you never know what happens."

Mattingly seemed more optimistic about the chances Ramirez would be available to pinch hit against the Tampa Bay Rays when the Dodgers return home on Friday.

"In at least a pinch hit situation so I'm not really down any players," Mattingly said. "When it first happened, if they told me he would be 100 percent in 15 days, I would have said I'll take that right now and it looks like it will be earlier than that. If it's under 15 and we can gain some days there that would be great."

Seriously, let him rest until like the last series of the year. He always comes back swinging great.

Give him all the time he needs to heal. Dude can literally roll out of bed and hit. Just hope it's not too bad of an injury :sulk:
