i think the obvious thing would be to sign reed johnson, he always kills lefties and we had him before, but hearing colletti and kasten today they are ridiculously high on puig. coletti said something along the lines "you dont have to even watch him hit, you can hear it you know its him, its alot of power" wouldnt shock me if they just use him to platoon with ethier. they are gonna give him a shot at spring training. gordon is just sadly gonna be another logan white infield failure. he cant develop them at all. laroche, dewitt, hu, loney, dejesus etc
.i think the rotation will be set. kershaw, billingsley, lilly, beckett, and capuano. no room for more. the bull pen is a must and i think we get league back. he loved it here. need a more reliable lefty. gotta give choate props though. he seemed to pitch for a month straight.

They keep saying that starting pitching is a target...but what the fuck we gonna do with all these starters?
Kershaw, Bills, Capuano, Lilly, Harang, Beckett, New guy(Shields), New guy(Dempster), New guy(Peavy), Fife, Ely, Lee.
    12 SP?

Just keep them in a safe house until the other ones all go down with devastating injuries, one by one, of course.
IDK where it was, but I read somewhere that "pitchers break".

Interesting observation on Logan White and the IF developements. Or non-developements
Everyone seems to have nothing but praise for him, but he is a pitching guy IMO, and aside from Kemp, who in the OF ever really? The Dodgers are made up of two superstar individuals from the system, and all the rest position players by trades or FA signings from elsewhere; there are guys like AJ, who I guess the jury is still out on, who could really be success stories, but far and few between. I don't know where all the genius shit comes from, but that's me.
That could be enough for the Dodgers however, as the team has been built more often than not, almost entirely on pitching.
But when is the last time we had a Garvey, Lopes, Cey,and Russell come up? Loney who was certainly promising, is about it, and everyone wound up hating the guy. But if Puig is the man, so be it. Great.
Also interesting about Colletti saying "you don't have to watch him hit, you ...blah blah"....maybe that was his approach to Schmitt, etc. "you don't have to actually see them hit and pitch anymore, the newspapers all say they are good".

You think they're going to platoon the 85 million dollar man? His splits are horrid, but I don't think it would help Puig's development either to start his career in a platoon. And then you have to deal with Andre who is going to be upset.

Agreed. Plus, I like what Mattingly was doing with Ethier down the stretch. 2nd against righties, 7th against lefties.

I think you tell Harang that he's most likely gonna take over Jamey Wright's roll, unless you can trade him, which is unlikely. Hell no to Shields, I'd like to keep the few prospects we have left. Guys like Dempster, Kuroda, Marcum should be our target, mid rotation guys. Or Greinke lol.

If they were to add Shields, Dempster or Peavy, Capuano or Harang would almost certainly be gone, Fife and Ely are nothing more than emergency #5s, and Lee probably wont be ready until september at the earliest, more likely in 2014 at which point Beckett, Harang, Capuano and Lilly will likely be gone.

Bingo. Were you surprised Grienke wasn't on that list or potential FA pitchers?

A little bit. But at the same time, I can understand not wanting to commit $100M+ to another player when they already have 3 and another soon to be.

I would trade Cap in the off-season. He way over-performed in the first half and came back down to Earth. Even though I am not a fan of Harang, I'd rather have him because I have little to no faith in Cap and the second half, to me, is really more of the pitcher he is. We should be able to get a decent prospect for him.

I'd sign HiKu or Edwin Jackson and call it a day.

I'd go after Peavy. Him being back in the NL West could be beneficial for both parties. Grienke, eh, I'll be happy if we get him, but I won't be sad if we don't.

If Bills is health, we have 3 spots locked. The one issue I see is that we still dont know whar Bills and what Beckett we'll get next year. They both can be a solid #2, but they can be nothing more than a #4. I dont like Greinke, but the market is really thin. My bet would go to Kuroda (but I guess the Yanks want him back) or Peavy. Out of Cap, Harang and Lilly (if healthy), I like Lilly the most of all. Cap was good then horrible and Harang looks like he cant get past the 6th inning.

At this point, I just don't think they can bank on Bills being healthy, and unless they know by thanksgiving that he will pitch next year, I think they have to pursue one of those 2nd tier guys. Be it Peavy, Lohse, Dempster etc.

I hope it's not Dempster. I don't think he can do what he did early in the season again. I'll take Peavy so he can rape the NL West again.
