I remember the Fat Burger craze back in the 80's-90's, when they first started the chain. I was eating there every day. I couldn't get enough of them. Ah yes, those chili burgers that fell apart in your hands and poured out into your lap. I haven't been there in many years. Last time I was in there I got something like a big mac, so I didn't go back.

remember their motto... "best meat in town. if you can't beat it, eat it."

You must be a youngster. I was eating those in the late 60's - early 70's. Very good for the time. My favorite now in in the OC. Slater's 50/50. 1/2 ground beef - 1/2 ground bacon. Add the fried egg & you're in business. It's a once a year treat.

I imagine Hamburg was where they figured out how to satisfy the lunchtime appetites of masses of working class jobbers.

Gotta go to the original first.

Beverly and rampart, these other locations aren't even close. Hell even the separate restaurant on the other side of the parking lot isn't the same. At one point in your life you have to hit the original shack.

This weekend I drove by the In N Out that is 2 blocks from where I grew up. It was around noon and the drive thru line was overflowing into the street, causing traffic problems as usual. The line went out into the nearby intersection, blocking the cross-traffic so I could make a quick and easy left without waiting.

Yes, the one in La Habra on Palm & Lambert. There isn't a lot of room for the drive-thru, so the line always goes out onto Lambert.

Worst design ever. The drive-thru fits 5 cars, and half of them have to go on the left side of the building. For the lucky kids who go to the awesome high school right around the corner they have no worries because they can just walk up, but if you drive there it sucks. There's basically no parking lot either.

yeah Tommy's can be nasty sometimes...

I've got a cast iron gut but I too have had bad crap there so it's off of my list now.

I laugh at Rube's Bob's Big Boy choice, it's my wife's favorite too though I was never impressed.

Slaters 50/50 burger WAS pretty good. I didn't add the fired egg though. Next time.

The issue with In-N-Out, which I love, is their simplistic menu and too thin patty size. I've had double doubles and 3x3's but it's not the same as a larger well made burger. I think that Chili's used to have a peppercorn crusted burger with pepperjack cheese that was pretty outstanding.

On the other hand I'm also not into spending $9 on a burger.
