I found this interesting as it would certainly appear our 77 million offer is over the top and would have been accepted if legit. Could make a person wonder how legit our supposed interest in other Int'l Players really was and how much was agent hype.

To be honest, I don't know. I mean I've read the scouting reports and all that Jazz but there seems to be so much confusion surrounding him in regards to his injury status, agent status, and how his athletic ability and talent will decline at his age of 29.

His offensive ability seems great and him playin 3B is so valuable cause 3B is a fucking black hole via free agency. Yeah we have a Turner, Uribe, and Guerrero but each have there question marks. If he's good enough to be a MLB starter caliber 3B, then he'd be so valuable on the free agent market when you look at what's out there. Might not be a star but being starter caliber would be essential and seems like he could be. I think health is the biggest risk here

    • The Dodgers have requested a second MRI on Hector Olivera‘s elbow, and the infielder’s camp has reportedly initially declined to provide it, CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman reports. Heyman speculates that Los Angeles could prefer to have an MRI performed by its own team doctor rather than rely on the first exam, which was taken in the Dominican.

It's not hard, agree to the deal, pending a physical that includes an MRI of his elbow, either that or he isn't getting an MLB contract.

Wouldn't surprise me if there aren't any real offers on the table yet for just that reason.

No clue dude. Sorry, all I have is what I read from people that have seen him. The scouting reports don't flatter me like they did with Moncada.

Also the 77 million just seems so out of the ordinary for this FO (even though they've been here two minutes). It doesn't seem like something they'd spend a lot of money on unless there was a pressing need

    • The Braves are expected to meet with Olivera’s new agent, the Legacy Agency’s Greg Genske, in Orlando today, reports MLB.com’s Jesse Sanchez (on Twitter). The Braves are “still in the mix” for Olivera, per Sanchez, although previous reports indicated that the team’s comfort zone was more in the $30-40MM range than in the $50MM range that Olivera is expected to land.

Braves are likely looking for a 3-4 year deal for that money while the Dodgers (if legit) are probably offering 6 years with an option for their bid. Years/time makes a big difference in the offers.

    • It was recently rumored that Olivera may require Tommy John surgery to repair the ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in his right elbow. As such, the Dodgers reportedly asked for a second MRI on Olivera’s elbow and were denied, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.

Of course they don't flatter you, they aren't about you.

I'm sure you meant "impress me".

    Carry on.

Marlins Out Of Hector Olivera Bidding
By Jeff Todd [March 22, 2015 at 10:52am CDT]

The Marlins are not longer involved in the bidding for Cuban free agent Hector Olivera, MLB.com’s Joe Frisaro reports on Twitter. Miami had been said to be interested in Olivera at about $53MM over seven years.

Though the Marlins never seemed to be the front-runners for his services — after all, the club just dealt for a second baseman and third baseman while extending two corner outfielders this offseason, leaving no obvious immediate fit — it was nevertheless apparent that Miami had real interest. Indeed, the team reportedly put that $53MM offer on the table earlier in the process before pulling it back.

Olivera, the lone remaining potential source of impact ability on the open market, was said to be on track to sign by the end of the week ending, presumably, today.

That piece about Olivera being compared to Justin Turner scares the fuck out of me.
