@ChadMoriyama: Dodgers sign Cuban shortstop Alexander Guerrero for $32 million, according to report + video http://t.co/0feoIfnhW1 Deal is for 7 years apparently. What the hell? I love these Cuban signings because we never hear of the player before hand lol
Dustin Nosler @FeelinKindaBlue3mWhoa. RT @dSoldevila: Dodgers' plan with Guerrero is to play him a couple of weeks in AA or AAA and then send him to LA to play 2B
racist, lol you're right about the mystery aspect and you'd probably know as well as anyone the importance of (trusting) our scouting of the cuban ballplayers seem to recall a lot of naysayers about puig before he lit up mlb but our guys obviously knew something the other scouts/organizations didn't
Plus, i'm willing to bet they have seen more of this guy than they saw of Puig, being that this guy has been in north america since january.
With most teams now being able to lock up their stars (See Votto and Phillips in Cincy), as well as spending caps for young international FAs, this is the one way that wealthy teams such as the Dodgers can flex their financial muscle to add potentially significant talent.
Apparently the plan is to get him some time in AA-AAA before bringing him up to play 2B later in the season. I can't see the team justifying doing that this year unless one of the futility IF's get hurt and Mark Ellis just starts to play god awful. I'm interested to know what the long term plan is for him, is it 2B or do they want him at SS and to move Hanley to 3b?
"later in the season" could just be september 1st when rosters expand, he gets a month or so to get sharp, then comes up.
Jesus! What the actual fuck. I've never even heard of this guy before. He has a sweet ass swing though.
Reports: Shortstop Alexander Guerrero defects from Cuba Matthew Pouliot Jan 21, 2013, 4:01 PM EDT 12 Comments Getty Images Rafael Rofes Perez writes on his blog, Pasaje Deportivo, that rumors in Cuba have placed former Las Tunas shortstop Alexander Guerrero in the Dominican Republic. LaOpinionDeportiva.com makes the same claim. Guerrero, 26, was sitting out the Cuban baseball season, saying he lacked the motivation to play. He expressed disappointment over not being selected for a spot on Cuba’s World Baseball Classic roster. Guerrero has been one of Cuba’s best players the last few years, hitting .338/.408/.641 in 2009, .343/.414/.583 in 2010 and .310/.400/.599 in 2011. Between the three seasons, he delivered 60 homers in 886 at-bats. One imagines that if the reports are true and he eventually becomes a free agent, he could take over as a starting shortstop or second baseman for an MLB team in short order.
I think this pretty much scratches us from being players in the Cano sweepstakes unless they plan on moving Ramirez to third.
Cano is tied to that Biogenesis crap who knows if and when he's suspended if he will ever reproduce his numbers again.
Looks like a false alarm. He has not been cleared to sign yet and is going to have a tryout in front of 3 teams on Wednesday.
Jesse Sanchez @JesseSanchezMLB6mGuerrero is a free agent but has not been unblocked by OFAC. He can't come into an agreement until cleared. Showcase scheduled for Wed in DR Have a hard time believing this won't get done when he can sign if these reports came out. I guess it's back to dreading the game tonight.
