    Thought that was the always annoying Marvin Benard.

    Annoying, true, but he retired before Kershaw's debut.

    Yeah, saw Tom the Bomb a few times...what struck me everytime ( besides the Dodgers hardly ever winning when I went), was that Tom's right pant leg had a dirt stain on it every time.
    Talk about follow through and driving with the lower half...his mechanics were just power personified.

    Career win #218 for CK. Most ironically, he ties Scherzer, whom he beat today. However, Max is not the most meaningful tie for this win. And I'm taking full credit for uncovering this next factoid - I didn't just read it somewhere, I had to research and compile it myself.

    This win also ties Kershaw with Bob Caruthers. Who's Bob Caruthers, you ask? Exactly. You wouldn't know the name because he was a pre-1900s pitcher for the St. Louis Browns and the Brooklyn Bridegrooms. But Bob Caruthers is also the ONLY player in the long, rich history of major league baseball to finish his career with more than 200 wins and fewer than 100 losses. Now, many - myself included - don't consider pre-modern age baseball statistics relevant. I mean, Caruthers only played for nine seasons and had multiple years of 40+ and 50+ starts - something that would never happen today. Nevertheless, he did log those numbers. He ended with a record of 218-99.

    At the moment, the incomparable Clayton Kershaw is 218-96.

    Win #219 for Kersh. Ties him with Pedro and Kenny Rogers. Also re-ties him with Scherzer who picked up a win this week.

    In my stat from last week where Kershaw is the only modern era pitcher with more than 200 wins and less than 100 losses, Pedro just missed, having lost exactly 100 games. So the significance of this win is now he matches Martinez in wins, but with four fewer defeats.

    One thing about Rogers: he knew when to hold 'em, and he knew when to fold 'em...

    Primarily due to longevity. To put in perspective, he pitched 480 more innings than Kershaw has. Almost every pitcher ahead of CK on the wins list played more games.

    Sutton being on this list is a surprise to me. Not that he wasn't statistically accomplished, but there are many other pitchers whom I'd expect to see before him.

    Win #220 for Kershaw. Ties Jerry Reuss and re-ties Scherzer. They're at 80th on the list, but there are a ton of pre-modern era pitchers, so in theory should be ranked higher.

    Always liked Reuss. Had a career turnaround in LA. Might be most famous for coming lame up for the '81 opener. Guy named Fernando took his place.

    Vin's call and a Dodger pitcher no-hitting the Giants. Doesn't get any better.

    Win #221 for CK. Ties Joe Niekro, and once again, re-ties Scherzer. You wonder how the lesser Niekro won 221 games with a career ERA of 3.59? The answer... 22 seasons.

    @Howard_Cole
    Clayton Kershaw lifetime: 221-96 W/L, 2.52 ERA, 1.015 WHIP, 2,831 IP, 3,026 K.
    And on a night he allowed a run on two hits, no walks and six strikeouts in five innings, his manager said “he didn’t have best stuff.

    to be fair, his manager is a fucken idiot
