Yeah, that strike three on Boegarts (I don't want to look up the spelling) was bad, but Machado got a gift walk earlier on what should've been strike 3. Point is it balances out and the Padres blaming their failures on one call is comical.

That said, I'm ready for the ABS. Maybe when specific umps are constantly overturned either they or the league will do something about it.

As a side note, I usually listen to games on the radio feed while doing work around the house, so not necessarily watching, but I did sit and watch the two against the Reds, and I thought those umps were excellent.

i’ll never get tired of watching this
the guts of davalillo dragging a bunt with two outs
manny being manny (mota), as clutch a hitter as i’ve ever seen
and of course ropes russell coming through, which he does again the following year
special thanks to my parents, who let me leave school early to watch the magic

Good idea there... after a year to "refresh" the "skills" of certain inept, bottom- dwelling umps who come in as the dregs before they continue on unabated in the following season...like armed police and agents with firing range minimums, so they can kill more efficiently.
With ABS next year, the fact that if you get it right and validated by asking for a replay does not use up that challenge is a stroke of fine thinking.
Certainly better than waiting for arguably the greatest baseball player ever to be dead first for allowing him enshrinement in the HOF, where so many lesser players have been for years already.

Was there in person. Good friend and former teammate was a bullpen pitcher for the Phils. I felt for him but at the same was happy for my team.

roberts apparently still going with three catchers
    idiotic
if smith is healthy, then no need for rushing
if not, then let will rest
either way it’s a waste of a roster spot

    • "[Kershaw] will be on the [NLDS] roster. He's going to be out of the pen and used as such," Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Friday.

They lost a bet or something. No way anyone would do that willingly and agree to be recorded.

Posting here since the prospect thread is on hiatus.

I don't know who this blogger is or what his credentials are, but it seems he put some thought into this: selecting one Prospect of the Year for each position from a field of over 5000 minor leaguers.

There's no differentiation among the three outfield positions - only one outfielder was selected. And as I've noted often, the Dodgers system is teeming with outfield talent. He chose Quintero for his list. Read on...

    From today's LAT.....

    Roster and rotation notes
Roberts said, after Ohtani, Blake Snell would likely start Game 2, with Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Tyler Glasnow lined up for Games 3 and 4, respectively. Glasnow will be available out of the bullpen for Game 1 as well.

Clayton Kershaw will be on the team’s NLDS roster, after being left off for the wild-card round. Roberts said he will pitch in a relief role.

Catcher Will Smith is expected to once again be on the roster as one of three catchers, Roberts said, but his availability to start games remains in question. Though Smith’s fractured right hand has healed, he is still in the process of rebuilding strength and stamina after missing the last few weeks. He was scheduled to take live batting practice during the team’s Monday workout.

They're saying the gloves are off for Shohei today. Going to treat him like a "regular pitcher." Whatever that is.

Gonna let him go passed 6 innings if he is pitching well
    That is my guess

    Hmmm... okay.

These starters, especially Yoshi and Snell, have been so effective with that extra day rest. This is taking away that benefit. Could easily have kept them on that schedule with Glasnow pitching game 2. I understand that you want your best pitching as soon as possible, but it's a little risky... especially with the amount of pitches Yamamoto threw vs CIN. I hope it works out.

Bummed that Scott stays on the roster over Wrobleski. There was a role for Wrobo. I still don't see one for Tanner, unless you include bench warmer.

Don't know much about Realmuto, but this is a smart, intelligent, non-bulletin board quote about the Bums:

“But playing a team like this, in my opinion, they’re the epitome of what a Major League team should be. They go out every year and try to win, their ownership is awesome, their front office is great. It’s an organization that the other teams look up to.

“And I see us as the same way. I feel this matchup is going to be a lot of fun and it’s good for the game to have these two teams going at it.”
