What kind of contract would you give Ethier?

There's a lot of talk about a possible extension, so what would you aim for? I think the 11M he got in arb pretty accurately reflects the type of player he is. I think I'd give him the JD Drew treatment at 3/33 with a vesting option for another year or two at 13M per.

    You?

Assuming we aren't a contender I would not give him a contract. I would deal him at the deadline for a quality infield prospect or two to replace our trash when Ned's horrible list of utility scrubs run out.

If, however, he can figure out how to consistently hit a lefty this year, I would say a 12/15 mil a year would be alright. Boston seems to have a man crush on him so he can join his bum-chum mate there though so I'm pretty sure he'll get higher than that.

Yep. Unfortunately it seems I am now a family man, which oddly came naturally to me and has made me even happier than I was somehow. Gay huh?

Hanging out for baseball season badly though, got a new house and a new T.V which I can plug my laptop into and watch MLBTV in HD. Gonna be fucking cool. Probably only make the effort of watching live when Kershaw pitches though, can't slack off as much as I used to with my current job.

BTW, enjoy the drug fueled posts haha. Those are the days I wanna hold you man. Live it up Devil!

I'm with NZ. I'd probably ship him out for some hitting spects, cause god knows our system is thin on hitting. I've never been that big of an Andre fan, and IMO he's a bit overrated. Except for this past season, he has been a terrible outfielder and is absolutely worthless against lefties. I would only be okay with giving him an extension if he gets paid less then 10 million annually, which I don't see happening.

no way bro, family life has some great benes if you work it right. nothings forever but i would never trade raising kids for anything. expensive as all hell but nothing else close. good for you, that happiness you have is all there is.
have no idea how i got sucked into that drug fueled vortex last week but its not my natural state. beers, weed and an occasional shot is usually as far as i go. i started thinking about all the shit i had been putting in my body and sounded like an autopsy report. was kind of cool to look at those dilated pupils in the mirror and see the freak in my soul. but i really can enjoy myself just fine without poisoning myself. :stirpot:

If he plays how he plays, and we don't resign him next year, our offense is going to be disgusting next year. I mean, disgusting. Unless we traded for a hitter but I really doubt an impact hitter comes cheap without losing some good pitching.

I think we should extend him unless he completely falls off this year, and 4 years 55 mil with a 5th year option would be fair... Making it close to 4 years 60 mil guaranteed with some of that guaranteed a signing bonus and/or buyout

If he looks healthy, offer him 4/47. Make him understand a move to first may happen if an OF with power can be acquired. If he seems reticent, trade him at the deadline for a nice hitting prospect. We need to look for bat over everything.

If Ethier goes, we would need to find another lefty bat - ideally another 3 slot hitter. And he's a damn fine fielder, too - with that cannon of his. Seems like a lot of trouble to replace him. I'm thinking the slump days are over - now that his knee is fixed. Plus he'll play hard this season as it's his contract year. So, go ahead and re-sign Ethier for 3 and be done with it. Give him the money. It's the rest of the team that needs the serious attention anyway. I'm particularly worried about Maserati Boy.

What does the lineup look like in 2013 without Eithier? What possible bats will be available to replace him and might he not be one of the best hitters available in FA? Now we compete with ourselves if he plays like we think he can the price and number of bidders only goes up.

19th in wOBA over the past three seasons of qualified outfielders. Better than guys like Hunter Pence, Corey Hart and Carl Crawford. The guy rakes.

I see it as the devil you know versus the devil you don't.

Ethier has warts but then they all do. A solid fielder who hits as much as Ethier is going to fetch $10M - $12M easy. So anywhere between 4/40 and 4/48 makes some baseball sense. If he could hit lefty's then he'd get more and leave us sooner...

We don't have squat to replace his bat with and Ned ain't really looking so hard for upgrades while Frank finishes looting every last corner of the Dodger bucket.

Ned's a fool working for the thief McCrook and we're fiddling while Chavez Ravine burns...

Can I get a new owner on Aisle 5 please?

4 years at 55-60 million sounds good, as long as he is ok with a move to LF if a better RF option comes along. His arm is terrible for a right fielder.

    5/$75MM. I love Dre.

Then we can sign Hamilton because Texas is sick of his problems. He'll be fine in LA... that is, unless Loney is still around for him to hang out with. ;)
