This should be fun. Let's see which of us puts together the best team together for next year if we had a payroll of $150M going into the off-season. The $150M is INCLUSIVE of $11.5M that we are still paying Manny and Andruw.

Please assume that NONE of the deals that are signed, so far, with any team are done so, it's day 1 of the off-season, i.e. we don't have Mark Ellis, Juan Rivera, mo extension for Kemp, Twins don't have Caroll, Yankees don't have CC, etc...

You have $104M to spend including signing FAs, resigning anyone, money for extensions/renegoitiations and money for arbitration eligible players. Make realistic trades if you desires.

Have at it, let's see who the best GM is in DSP...

BTW, this shouldn't be a dream, this should be reality for the Dodgers.

Time for some of you who always criticize to man the fuck up and build your ideal team.

Question: If I want Juan Rivera, does it mean I have to spend 4.5 mil on him? Can we have a referee to agree that like he could have been had for 2-3 million or something and same for other players

I would say that be as reasonable as possible. Also, since you have the advantage of some hindsight and know, for example, that Rivera was signed for $4.5M, then don't have him sign for $2M on your team. I'll try to referee as best as possible, as I am sure most everyone else will if something ridiculous is posted, but really it's about being as reasonable as possible. Great question.

    Sign Albert Pujols: 5 years/$140M ($28M/year)
    Sign Matt Kemp: 8 years/$160M ($15M for 1st year $20.7M/year thereafter)
    Sign Kelly Johnson: 2 years/$20M
    Sign Aaron Miles: 1 year/$2M
    Sign Chris Synder: 1 year/$3M
    Sign Andre Ethier: 4 years/$64M ($12M for 1st year, $17.3M thereafter)
    Sign Clayton Kershaw: 3 years/$40M ($10M for 1st year, $15M/year thereafter)
    Sign Tony Gwynn: 1 year/$2M
    Sign HiKu: 1 year/$10M
    Sign Takashi Saito: 1 year/$2.5M

Trade: EO, Alfredo Silverio, Scott Van Slyke to Atlanta for Jair Jurrjens (1 year $6/M)
Trade: Loney for a A+/AA prospect

Non-tender: Hong-Chih Kuo (pains me, but have to...)

    Lineup
    Gordon -SS
    Ethier - RF
    Pujols - 1B
    Kemp - CF
    Johnson - 2B
    Sands - LF
    Uribe - 3B
    Ellis/Snyder - C

    Rotation
    Kershaw
    Jurrjens
    Bills
    HiKu
    Lilly

    Bullpen
    Guerra
    Jansen
    Saito
    Guerrier
    Hawksworth
    Elbert
    Lindblom
    Monasterios

    Bench
    Snyder
    Sellers
    Gwynn
    Mitchell

Payoll would be $146.5M. This team would be extremely solid offensively, defensively, in the starting rotation and in the bullpen. Beast!!!!

If I had 104 million dollars to spend, I'd give Kemp his extension at 20 per, tender everyone (about 24 mill I figure), sign Pujols for 30 per, Kuroda for 10 and Buerhle for 8.

I still have 16 million, so then I guess I'd sign Rollins for 10 per, and Doumit for 6.

    Rollins
    Ethier
    Kemp
    Pujols
    Loney (LF)
    Doumit
    Uribe
    Gordon (2B)

    and

    Kershaw
    Kuroda
    Billingsley
    Buerhle
    Lilly

    with the same pen.

    I think I win!

Not bad VRP, but I think I win....I have given Kemp, Kershaw and Ethier long-term contracts. Also, there is no way that Buerhle goes for less than HiKu OR for a 1 year deal (don't really know any of the contract lengths because you didn't indicate them).

The problem with your scenario is that Pujols would never sign that deal, he turned down 9 years 200 from STL. I also think you screwed us over with the Kershaw deal because you only bought out his arb years, so essentially that extension did nothing but overpay him. Also, I wouldn't touch Jurrjens with a 10 foot pole, click here to see why! He's gonna do nothing but decline.

We have $104M to spend this year. $46M is already being paid to people on the roster (Lilly, Uribe, Bills, etc...)

    SS: Jose Reyes
    RF: Matt Kemp
    1B: Prince Fielder
    3B: Martin Prado
    C: Ramon Hernandez
    LF: Jerry Sands
    CF: Michael Bourn

Utility: Juan Uribe, Juan Rivera, Fed-Ex, Justin Sellers, Tony Gwynn Jr,

I wouldn't add any players; I'd use the money for personal things -- houses in Malibu, etc...

Ok, so I think I got this worked out.......and of course if my #'s are off, I am sure I will hear it.

    I make 2 HUGE deals:

I go after Fielder. We need that huge bat to pair up with Kemp. Not to mention that he is LH (complimenting Kemps RH)he is younger than Pujols, good friends with Kemp and Gwynn.....come on the guy was tailor made for LA!!!!! I offer him the same contract I gave Kemp. (in my scenario, I come in around 143 total, so there is room to give him more).

I also go after Yu Darvish. We are LA - Kemp / Kershaw / Fielder / Darvish will put people in the seats ALL SEASON.

    Sign Prince – 8 yr 160M – 20/yr
    Sign Yu - 38M for bid rights + 5yr $30M deal - 13.6M/YR
    Resign Kemp – 8 yr 160M – 20/yr
    Offer Ethier Arb – 11M
    Resign Carrol – Twins contract – 6.5 for 2 yrs – 3.25/yr
    Offer Kersh Arb – 8M
    Resign Kuroda – 1 yr 12M
    Resign Miles – 1yr .750M
    Resign Gwynn – 1yr .750M
    Resign Hawksworth – 2 yr deal for 1.5M - .750M/yr
    Resign Jensen – 2yr deal 2M – 1M/yr

    Rotation:
    Kershaw / Darvish / Bills / Kuroda / Lilly

    Bullie:
    Guerra / Jensen / Guerrier / Hawksworth / Elbert / Lindblom / Monistario-Eveland-Evoldi

    OF:
    Rivera / Kemp / Ethier (bench – Sands/Gwynn)

    Inf:
    Uribe / Gordon / Carroll / Fielder (bench – Miles / Sellers)

    Catcher:
    Ellis (Bench – FedEx)

    Lineup:
    Gordon / Carroll / Kemp / Fielder / Ethier / Rivera / Uribe / Ellis

All this puts me in around $143M, which includes pay raises to all arb guys as well as guys like Bills and Lilly. That # also includes the 11.5M that is owed to Manny and Pierre.

Side note: To make this more realistic, we should pair down the payroll to $120M. For my list I would not sign Kuroda (replacing him with either Evoldi or Eveland) and Trade Ethier for prospects (giving RF to Sands and changing the line up to Gordon / Carroll / Kemp / Fielder / Rivera / Uribe / Sands / Ellis). That will cut 23M from the 143M, pushing it down to 120M.

^ did you factor in the additional posting price just to bid on Darvish?

^ Yep. I tried to get inbetween Dice-K's contract and Kei Igawa's contracts.

    Dice-K - $51M bid + $52M over 6 years - bid = 8.5M/yr & salary = 8.6M/yr

    Darvish - $38M bid + 30M over 5 years - bid = 7.6M/yr & salary = 6M/yr

    Igawa - $26M bid + 20M over 5 years - bid = 5.2M/yr & salary = 4M/yr

    Resign Kuroda – 1 yr 12M
    Resign Gwynn – 1yr .750M

Kelly Johnson getting the deals you guys want him for is bad. You guys are signing him under the impression that he is going to play like 2010 right?

In 2010, Kelly Johnson OPSd .754 away from Chase Field (a definite hitters park). Mr. Mark Ellis who everyone think is equal to Justin Sellers? He OPS .825 away from that POS park in Oakland

I dont know who the better player from here on out is going to be, hell it'll probably be KJ if he stays in those hitters parks. But talking shit about Mark Ellis getting 4.5 million for 2 years, then wanting Kelly JOhnson to get 7-10 for 2-4 years is far worse

Other than that, I do like SDFs team, given that Sands or Castellanos could fight for the 4th OF spot to platoon against lefties
