I appreciate that. I think my level of visibility is in direct correlation to how well the team is doing. Call it a touch of bandwagoning if you want, but when the team sucks I tend to shut them out. I guess that's my coping mechanism.

I think I joined in the late 90's. I remember some of those guys and had the same impression as you, but suddenly many of them up and moved.

Smart...better than the suicide suggestions and downer declarations you get if you're not the Cheshire Cat here from some....
How do you shut them out though? Tough...

My earliest recollection of the espn board was about 2001. I got to meet JeffinLA, dgd, bobsince58, lovesbrett, bradcymru, rickinsb (might have screwed that name), and lovetheblue on a trip out there in 2004. To those that saw him post, it will come as a shock that dgd couldn't be a nicer guy. I met his father as well. Dgd gave me a ride to the 2nd game of the season and I had a great time talking with him and his lovely wife. As an extra special treat, their infant son held my hand as we walked into the stadium, it was such a feeling of acceptance-really made my day. I still have facebook contact with some of those peeps. Oh, I left out Kasparitus, whom I can never repay for gifting me with a ticket (5th row behind the 1st base dugout) for that game.

It was as irish alluded, pretty cliquish. It got even worse when the majority moved to teh new digs. Ultimately it's why I elected to move on. The early 2000's were definitely quite the time to be on that board.

Is 'teh' back in fashion now? I'm seeing it being used more often...a tribute to teh departed Koufax?

That's right... one day he posted about some near-death experience that supposedly gave him a new perspective on life and that he wasn't going to let little things get to him anymore. Two or three days later, the old dfan was back. I'd have had no issue with him if it was just a matter of differing opinions, but he always reverted to taking it to a personal level. We'd be disputing the effectiveness of some player. I'd throw some stats at him (which he absolutely hated). Then he'd respond by calling me a goose-stepping sac-licker or something. He loved that term, goose-stepping. He was convinced that since I'd defend a player, I must be a McCourt supporter.

I remember one of our back-and-forths went something like this:

Me: Saito's numbers actually rank well among NL closers.
Dfan: So tell me, how do McCourt's salty nuts taste?
Me: You just answered your own question.
    Dfan: What do you mean?
Me: Well, they taste salty, according to you.
Dfan: I don't get it. I'm asking you to tell me.

Then somebody else chimed in and explained it to him. After that, I just started feeling sorry for the guy, thinking he probably had a bunch of issues he was dealing with offline. Hopefully, wherever he is now, he's found some solace in life.

That's really the only way for unorthodox terminology to become mainstream. "Teh" and "bkitch" are tributes in the DSP vernacular.

I'm not in Southern Cal, so most of my exposure to the team is through this board. I'll go awol for weeks at a time if I need a break.

That's a trip down memory lane. I remember all those names now that you mention them. Once I figured out dgd's shtick early on, I found new respect for him. I have no doubt he's as nice as you say.

If "teh" and "bkitch" become mainstream, and it gets known they had their birth at DSP, then I will disavow ever have being a poster here. I don't exactly agree that they are "attributes". Detriments maybe.
I would rate them level with ginormous, a totally useless and unneccessary new word.
    Thank you.

Actually, at the time of Waterloo, it was a grey Arabian. Merengo.
But he rode whites from time to time...150 or so different mounts in his time.
    Did I miss the joke?
