I found the thing about taking guys off the 60 day DL interesting. When you put guys on any DL it opens up a roster spot which in turn obviously means somebody gets outrighted or released. Should be interesting who that affects on the 40 man roster. Of course the guys who we already know are going to the FA stage. I love this part of the off season!!!
Not thrilled that I have to re-follow all the baseball writers that I can't stand since I have such a lust for rumors.
The first two on the 40 that you could see DFA'd are Butera and Baxter. I just get this feeling that there is going to be a lot of movement on this team with more than a few surprises. Should be a lot of fun.
Wilson/Howell/Hairston/Punto/Schumaker/Young/Volquez/Nolasco are FA's. Caps and Ellis options will be declined which makes a total of 10 off the roster and Tolleson/Bills/Beckett/Dominguez/Elbert are on 60 day D/L which is a net of 5 open spots. Elbert will be non-tendered I heard which makes it 6?
I thought the team would pick up the option on MEllis as an insurance policy in case Guerrero isn't ready, but looks like the FO is pretty comfortable going forward.
In Marks case I think their just hoping to sign him for less and has little to do with Guerrero but then again I am guessing.
I would be surprised to see him return as it would probably be no more than a 1 year deal. I have to believe someone out there will probably give him a multi year deal.
I wish 'em well. Those guys were gamers for us. I'm sure they'll be starters somewhere, and hopefully in the AL where we can't get burned too much. But, I must say, it is refreshing to clear out some lockers. I expect some more cleats will drop soon...
my thoughts exactly. Capuano had his shitty moments but his talent was his talent, and he never had any lack of effort about anything I loved Mark Ellis and think a lot of the disdain about him came because he was used incorrectly (batting real high up vs. righties) but he was a valuable piece at a reasonable price and I hope he and Capuano find some success elsewhere
I hope we keep Juan Uribe as a backup. Better defense, more pop off the bench, and his teammates love him.
