    Today or the series?
I feel like the Cubs are a better match up but I don't want the sideshow that comes along with them (Wrigley, Murray, their fans, Maddon, etc.). Insufferable franchise.

Oh just today but probably the series, idk. Cubs are a better matchup in many ways but I feel like the Nats will have to fuck up their rotation to win that series and the Cubs wouldn’t be that short handed so I'd rather face the Nats.

    He doesnt have valley fever.
Maybe thats what Dusty said about his team all being sick?
Valley Fever is spread by inhaling too much old moldy musty Dusty.
(although that was probably just a jab at his players for sucking as if they were sick)

Valley fever is more like a fungus in your lungs and blood.
And yes it sucks the life out of you.

Pretty much. As we know, there are some illnesses, that even in the early stages as you fight them off with your preferred method, can play on your muscle/strength and have you a tick or two off. Now, you combine that with the fact that people also wanted Strasburg to go on short rest yesterday and I can fully understand just allowing the next man to go. Short rest and feeling the effects of a team-wide illness yesterday? Yeah, pass the baton. But Dusty says he's 90-95 today, so feeling better and on normal rest thanks to the rain out. Hopefully, he's great again and they muster up some runs for him.

Generally, you don't get a A for effort in professional sports. Shit, I remember when Seager was very ill for about a month in the minors. He lost 15-20lbs and was " toughing " his way through it, trying to play much of the time. He got no A for effort. All the scouting services wanted to do was point to his dwindling performance and falling numbers. Big difference here with Strasburg, but still, the narrative won't be " he toughed it out " if they lose. The narrative will be " Nats choke again ".

Anyway, some are still tossing around the question of " who do I prefer? " when it comes to the winner of this series. It's not really a thing for me, the road to the WS is supposed to be tough. But if you put a gun to my head and force me to choose, give me the Nats. Obviously, a nice lineup they have over there, but they're still looking for their 1st trip to the NLCS + they've yet to even win a playoff game in which Scherzer or Gio's started..like ever. Gio has 5 playoff starts with them..0-0 record. Scherzer has 3 starts with them..0-1. They also seemingly always have some sort of schism going on over there as well. Although, beating the Cubs would be the most fun..I don't fear them and to be the man you should have to beat the man, but give me DC. They're choke artists, IMO..the Chargers of MLB. And if there's a team-wide sickness spreading, even better.

    agreed
dusty was being a good leader, defending his player
and i really wish i could have been the reporter when dusty dropped the "a lot of the team is sick" line
imagine it would have gone something like this...

dusty: "a lot of other guys on the team are sick too"
me: "really? and how many of them are unable to play tonight?
    dusty: "uhhhhhhhhhh..."

    strasberg is a fucken pussy
a big game pitcher wants the ball when it matters
a pussy looks for excuses to get out of it

    the nats are done
    dusty knows it
    the entire clubhouse knows it
and worst of all for them -- the cubs now know it
strasberg will be lucky to make it out of the 3rd
wouldn't be surprised if the cubs jumped out to a huge early lead
in fact, i'm predicting that's exactly what they'll do

Jargon is the reason for the destroying of the world.
Anyone can learn to do mostly anything as long as they have the patience/will/humility to be taught and the good faith to put in an honest days work. It wont take very long either.
But they invent jargon as a barrier.
Now you must go to a special school and pay a special amount to hear special teachers with special textbooks so you can learn the special text which is another way of saying holy writings.
These priests are there to indoctrinate you with their doctrines and holy text jargon so you can then spit out that jargon and wow/stun people with the knowledge/misdirection in the magic show you give the flock who lines your pockets.

The fact that Strasberg is now going to pitch makes him look even douchier. This was a guy not willing to put it all on the line for a team that’s on the brink of elimination just because he wasnt feeling 100% (even if you give him the benefit of the doubt here....which I don’t). Now he’s fine enough to go?

I wouldn’t be shocked if Bor-Ass didn’t whisper in Strasberg’s ear about not taking the risk of looking bad of he’s not 100% and then walking that back when the backlash happened.

I know you didn't imply that either, but you know me... in case somebody else thought you meant valley fever ill jump in with my experience.
We all type with bad form here, well I do at least. I just blurt shit out most of the time.

When you have the rep that Strasburg has you better be falling off the mound before you say take me out coach.

    Fuck that.
You get no A for effort. Its not about you getting an A.
The fact that we know what Stras is thinking and his thinking is that he is thinking about HIMSELF and not the team.
Thinking that he wont get credit for being gutsy... so why be gutsy at all?
How horrible is that defeatest cynical thinking?
That is what makes you a quitter or soft or whatever you want to call it.
    Its that mindset.

Dude does not want to look bad.
Does not want his value affected, his numbers.

Kirk Gibson went out there risking his career in the 1st round of a playoff against a juggernaut favored to crush us.
There will be no WS on a team lead by Strasburg, no matter the talent.

Kershaw would have gone out and given up 4 HR and taken the punishment of being called a choker in the playoffs.
That is the credit you get when you are not 100 and you show up to work.
You might suck all day, but at least you showed up.
And while externally you will get grief, internally you will save yourself a ton of it.

The worst that can be said about him in this instance is that all the other guys on the Nats that aren't feeling well were willing to play anyway. And with that said, there's a chance that some of those guys could go all game without seeing a ball hit to them defensively. When you're the pitcher, holding the team's fortune in your hands on every pitch, shit matters quite a bit more. I'd be willing to bet that the thought of going on short rest yesterday as well played a role. Regardless, they gave Strasburg 200M I think it was, so they didn't question his toughness enough to let him hit free agency..where Kasten would've probably snapped his guy up in a heartbeat

The arm stuff, some hamstring stuff recently as well. Gonna be interesting to see what he gets in free agency..Cubs have been slow playing him and part of me believes he's been slow playing them with his performance as well, maybe in response. His market would have to be pretty hot if the latter were the case. His quote on the matter of free agency is " I like my chances " Lol

I’m not saying he has to pitch 9 scoreless. But he has to go in this situation as far as he can, and so far so good. So how sick was he....allegedly.

Hah, it is the start of the slow season business wise for me right now, so free time becomes fairly ample. Plus, that was only about an hour of my time and I had spent the morning working. Really annoying how that slow time lines up with the offseason where I would love something to keep me occupied(Hello Netflix and Hulu)!

Don't know. They're saying the flu bug and when that hits, you and I both know what that means. You can fight it off with thera-flu and various other stuff, but it still has an effect on your muscles for at least a short period. When you mix in the fact that yesterday would've been on short rest as well..just hard for me not to understand that he may have felt like Roark could've given them a better chance. Like I said initially, the alternative thought is " be tough ", but that also could viewed as being selfish..knowing you're not up to it, but still going out there. Looks OK today..I imagine they Thera-flu'd the fuck out of it along with everything else vitamin wise. Everybody in that clubhouse is probably chugging Thera-flu
