I truly believe they will. And who would they have traded for Rollins then? Zach Lee? The Dodgers have SHIT in SP Depth. Getting Eflin+Wieland helps land you Rollins and not suffer too much. If they would have tried for Rollins without any help, then the #6-#8 starters you have in the likely event your MLB starters get hurt are pure shit. Then you're left with having emergency trades for Roberto Hernandez and Kevin Correia.
The irony and perhaps telling reminder is that the old Dodger brain trust is gone. Many to San Diegoand they wanted Kemp bad
if that's the case then it makes a bit more sense still disappointed though i know the 2nd half last year was a small sample size but i was really looking forward to see what he could do this year just seems like we gave up a lot just to unload him then again, it's not like there were a lot of other teams interested obviously would have preferred shipping carl or dre, but no one wants them not sure what they're going to do with dre, given his trade demand request can't DFA him and eat the $56MM he's owed but yeah, he's got to go as well as for kemp the padre... i hope he has a monster year and solid career not to get back as us for trading him, just because i wish him well if not, then the FO did a good job trading him when his value was highest
That 2nd half was amazing but heres another thing: Andre Ethier was pretty great in the second half in 2013. I'm not saying Kemp's 2015=Ethier's 2014 but it just shows that there's a huge risk into having this large commitment into a player based off recency bias. And as it currently stands, yeah they didn't trade Kemp for 2011 status Kemp but they also didn't trade him for pure shit. At the same time, they know there can be a chance he falls apart and you're left with what is currently happening with Andre and CC in having two large untradeable assets. Having a third would just be horrible
very true and if kemp was truly a problem in the clubhouse (and it's sounding more and more like that's the case) then they pretty much had to trade him
Yeah I mean it's hard to know without making huge assumptions but at the same time, how weird is it that quotes like those start trickling out and Kemp and Hanley are gone? Kemp is the same guy who they had to sit for 5 games to be okay with him being in RF. I love the guy but just seems like maybe theres more to just a pure baseball statistical thing going on here. Maybe this leads to a better clubhouse overall? And that's crazy to say after a team won 94 games despite it, and a manager should handle all this shit. Idk, I'm going in circles
apparently that's all we could get for him it's not like other teams we're banging down our doors to get him
Bob Nightengale @BNightengale 3m3 minutes ago The #Dodgers would have traded Matt Kemp to the #Dbacks for CF A.J. Pollock, but rejected Dbacks counter-offer of pitcher Archie Bradley . I think Nightengale mixed names up here.
no it isnt... - we added a good defensive catcher who's bat is average - 2B, I'm cool with the move - he was that player last year, playing in that bandbox in Philly. I dont expect him to repeat 2014 (not like it was a great year either) - Im ok with that signing, although a little bit too long for my taste - Top 20 prospect is still a prospect. The problem is that there's no backup plan if that top 20 prospect goes sour. I like all the moves but Kemp's.
then keep him... if its about giving players away with a bunch of cash, I bet they could have done that with Ethier or CC...
