SOLD...you convinced me...decent move....ugly or boring, it was a smart move. AJ can get hurt and then this move would've had to been made in an emergancy trade and be costly.
Idk, it's not a deal I want to over analyze cause it's nothing exciting and I don't think it was a fantastic deal just makes sense given that Harang was probably the odd man out on Wednesday, he didn't feel comfortable in the bullpen where he was gonna be which coulda lowered his value more, and our catching situation is utter shit. Now we have 3 major league catchers (two who suck, but at least they are major league), instead of just two and injuries are such a big part of this game (as we know ) that nothing wrong with adding depth to the position. And also, we saved money in the deal given his option for next year. I know truebluela.com looked at the financials but it was around 2 mil saved (not much, but hey, it's something) It makes sense that no one was dying to trade for Harang and slot him in the rotation given his vesting option for next year. I think the idiotic move by Ned wasn't necessarily the trade, but the original contract handed out to Harang. If Harang didn't have the vesting option for next year, he becomes a better trade commodity cause teams aren't possibly stuck with him, and maybe we get a better backup catcher than Ramon hernandez
lol if AJ would have gotten hurt, or even Fed Ex, Ned woulda probably traded a good spec for someone like ramon Hernandez (shit, he still might! )
People are forgetting that we're dealing with Aaron Harang here. Lol. There's a reason why the best offer we could get for him was Ramon Hernandez.
We had a narrow corridor of time from when we knew enough folks were healthy to needing a roster spot for Chad and Harang was obviously not happy and of no use to us as a reliever and was eating up a roster spot we were going to need. If Bills melts down we still have Cap who seems more willing to accept a bull pen roll for now. We have Lilly coming off the DL list soon and what to do about him. Other teams know this and aren't dumb and we don't know how much confidence there was in the game Fed Ex calls. We don't know how crumby Harang was being in the club house and or in the bull pen etc etc and we don't need distractions.
And he might not have signed with us last year and gone elsewhere and we would have sucked in the first half last year.
fuck you lilly little cunt bkitch Ted Lilly's status with the Dodgers is in question, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com writes. The Dodgers asked Lilly to make two more rehab starts, but Lilly declined, feeling he is ready for the majors. The Dodgers don't currently have a job available for him on their crowded pitching staff, however. The Dodgers would reportedly like to trade Lilly, who they owe $12MM in 2013.
i've always hated lilly - they should've traded him instead of harang if they trade lilly, they'll be down to five active starters kershaw - beckett - ryu- cap - bills
Big difference: Lilly is making $12M, would have had to eat almost all of that for someone to take him and get little to nothing in return. Not worth it.
But Harang was only making like $7M. I'm willing to bet that they would have to eat $9M or more of Lilly's salary to get the same return. Again, not worth it.
Not really. When you take into account Harang's $2M buyout that they got out from under, they saved themselves over $4M.
That is the only 2M being saved in the deal, IIRC. Sending 4.25M I think to COL and paying 3M+ for Hernandez. IIRC the buyout is the only place money is being saved.
