We traded Kemp for Grandal, Rollins and a younger starting pitcher. It's not just Kemp for Grandal, it's larger and better then that

Whoa reality check. Logan White just left the Dodgers a few months ago so his experience is through out Kemps ups and downs. Also the brainchild for this trade is the former San Diego GM who engineered the worse offense in the majors last year. Just saying.

we have a new Padres fan, everyone

Dodgers are gonna beat the holy hell out of the Padres during Kemp's 2 years there. Kemp is a Yankee by 2017.

Kemp had negative value in 2013 and we still won 92 games...

that's OK..we only put the best right fielder in baseball back in his spot and he'll be able to go through a whole pack of bubble gum before anybody even tests his arm. Puig can blow his bubbles in peace.

Grandal did his best offensive work while playing first base and has value as a backup to Agon.

Do you remember his offensive performance down the stretch and in the playoffs? Was this because of being out of position or because the league caught up to him and or his continued legal problems which are still there and looming bigger as a judge ruled the suit can go forward.

Don't get me wrong, I love some Matt Kemp, but he was one of the worst players in baseball in 2013 and we still easily won the NL West. The success on this team doesn't hinge on Matt Kemp. People really overrate power hitters these days. Take Cespedes for example. Cespedes is worth just as many wins as Andre Ethier had been for 4 straight years before last year. Kemp at best is worth 3 wins. If he were still the guy that was worth 5-6+ wins, the Dodgers keep him IMO. But he's not the same player and it's not like things are going to get any better from here. Also from what it sounded like, is that they wanted Puig back in RF. So it's either trade the declining, 30-years old player with a big history of injuries, or the 24-year old, one of the best hitters in baseball since his callup, with the potential to get even better.

Sorta comical. You seem to forget 2014 and the fact that Hanley who carried us in 2013 is also gone.

J-Roll was worth 3 wins last season. Hanley was worth 3 wins last season. YOU guys seem to forget Hanley constantly being out of the lineup with god knows what injury he woke up with that morning. There was no spot on this team for Hanley because he's not a SS anymore. Same could go for Kemp because the Dodgers want Puig in RF. So you're essentially picking between Puig and Kemp; which is an easy decision. Also to add, Friedman and co. aren't done yet. We'll be able to fully judge everything when all the moves are complete.

I don't expect to change any of the "old-school" crowd's thinking, but having Kemp, Hanley, Crawford, Ethier, and A-Gon making premium dollars for this team when they're all 35 doesn't sound too fun to me. Yankees/Phillies much?

Nah to be quite honest with you I have a real life and have long since needed sports as a distraction from. I will easily adapt and will probably split my baseball viewing next year between watching Martin, Loney and now Gordon and Kemp. Just fast forward to your favorite players. Now after we were eliminated I was over posting about it the next day. Retirement and money do that. At the beach now and even if December it is the beach. Just back from shopping and checking in here.

maybe all 3 had a hand in his struggles..

and also maybe the bad hip that Puig played with for much of the 2nd half had a part as well.

It might be worth noting for all to ponder on both sides of the topic. Forget who the players leaving or coming are and consider the following facts and yes they are facts. One of the major architects of the trade was Josh Byrnes the fired GM of the Padres who put together the worse offense in baseball and one of the other chief architects was our new GM from Oakland who just a few months ago helped just before the trade deadline to blow up the team with the best record in baseball. How did that work out? Limped to the wild card and out in one game. So now those of you who invest would you bet your portfolio on two people with their track record? I wouldn't and that has nothing to do with Kemp or Gordon. Don't get me started on how you market a new look roster with a broken tv contract coverage.

Sure just like Kemps injuries and we know how we came back. Jury out on Puig recovering and the margin of error is?

i will take that into consideration..if you take into consideration that both Byrnes and Zaidi were trying to build teams in San Diego and Oakland with extremely limited resources.

also take into consideration that Friedman tried to get Grandal to Tampa multiple times, so don't downplay his role in this trade..take your pot shots at the chief too.

you're gonna make it hard for people to remember anything other than your doubts when this team wins the divison, but by all means..carry on.

Kemp is 30yrs old and tryin to pull it back together after having multiple surgeries.

and quite frankly, Kemp's not as talented as Yasiel Puig. " raw talent "..the argument can be made that Puig is the most supremely gifted player to hit MLB in 10+ years. he gets the Bo Jackson comparisons for a reason.

Remember Kemp is no longer a Dodger and it is now San Diego fans he will be playing for. So enjoy your Kempless Dodgers and hopefully Padre fans will enjoy Kempful Padres. It must be painful to live a life of dislike for others and want to see them suffer to ease your pain. I wish no player on any team ill will.
