Yes... I think that Brian Billick is Smith's brother in law. Make the call to him Del Rio....

yes he did. i put him right in there with Shurmur and Musgrave ( who like Harbaugh, started his career as a Raider QB coach). Musgrave is a Jack guy..worked under him in JAX..also helped bring Matt Ryan up in ATL. Cutler is a coach killer.

the ATL/JAX/JDR/Smith/Musgrave connection is real. tight knit.

Vikings Insider: Matt Ryan says he owes plenty to Musgrave

An unmistakable enthusiasm heightens Matt Ryan's voice. The Falcons quarterback has just been asked about Bill Musgrave, once his tutor in Atlanta and now the guy calling the shots for the Vikings offense.

At once Ryan grows giddy, unable to talk about his smooth transition into the NFL -- remember, he was the 2008 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year -- without lauding the guidance Musgrave lent.

They won 11 games and went to the playoffs their first season together. Ryan completed 61.1 percent of his passes and threw for 3,440 yards.

He limited his mistakes and immediately provided dividends on the investment Atlanta made when it took him with the third pick of the draft.

And if Ryan hasn't yet established himself as a top-tier NFL signal caller, he at least has solidified himself as a guy who should be a consistent playmaker in Atlanta for years to come.
Still, Ryan's gratitude continues funneling toward Musgrave, whom he worked under for three seasons and considers one of the most influential people in shaping his career.

"For me personally, Bill taught me so much about protections," Ryan says. "He taught me so much about understanding the passing game, understanding the running game, understanding how to play the position. He taught me about managing games, being smart and making good decisions."

How appropriate it is then that Ryan and Musgrave will experience a Georgia Dome reunion Sunday just a few days after Thanksgiving.

If a productive relationship between a young quarterback and a quarterbacks coach requires equal parts trust, camaraderie and communication, Ryan and Musgrave had all three.

To this day, they still root for each other, still exchange text messages.

The Oakland Raiders are closing in on naming Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio as their next head coach, with an announcement expected to happen as early as Wednesday, league sources told ESPN.

Sources told ESPN that Del Rio interviewed Tuesday night with owner Mark Davis, general manager Reggie McKenzie and former Raiders coach John Madden, the Hall of Famer who has been a proponent of Del Rio

If Jack Del Rio gets hired as #Raiders coach, fired Falcons head coach Mike Smith is Del Rio's top choice as defensive coordinator.

    — Steve Corkran (@CorkOnTheNFL) January 14, 2015

and the O-coordinator, i'm gonna predict Bill Musgrave for that job. former Raider QB coach, former QB coach/O coordinator for Del Rio in JAX, helped mold Matt Ryan working under Smith in ATL, and led a weak Viking offense team to the playoffs a couple years ago. currently the QB coach in Philly.

Not sure if this is a good thing. Ryan took some backward steps this last year.

That wasn't rocket science. Simple as him saying: "Ponder, turn around and give the damn ball to Adrian Peterson." Considering Peterson had the second greatest rushing season, ever.

Its a good thing, or a non-factor if you will, because Musgrave's long removed from ATL.

BTW, Pot Roast Knighton is behind JDR to Raiders. We're gonna get that guy. Watch. D line getting a big boost

Wasn't nearly as easy as that and nobody picked them to make the playoffs that season

Stats say their o-line was mediocre, 14th best in sacks allowed at 31. Jacksonville allowed the most at 71.

and no one expected Adrian Peterson to average 6 YPC and rush for 2,000 yards coming off of a torn ACL, which in turn, made him the NFL MVP.

no one expected Ponder to make such a drastic jump to a 81 QB rating with 18TD to 12INTS, on 62% completions and almost 3,000 yards either.
