Already have this thread made and with a much better title, may I add. http://www.dailysportspages.com/index.php?threads/could-this-guy-be-dumber-than-selig.7608/
I try not to pass judgement too early on folks until they have time to establish themselves in their new position, but this guy is fast tracking his way to hell. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/108620194/mlb-will-reportedly-change-all-star-game-hosting-criteria It's possible that in the near future I may hate this motherfkucker more than Selig...and that's A LOT!
lol, why not just let the fox/espn frames call the pitches you can implement whatever strike zone you want the problem is getting tyrannical self-righteous assholes like joe west or angel hernandez to comply as for the pitch clock and the [aforementioned] ban on infield shifts... manfred needs to back the fuck off seems like he's intent on putting his mark on the game Strike Zone Changes May Be Made To Improve Scoring Dodgers Nation — 20 minutes ago Despite formally being in office for less than a month, new Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred has been quick at work. He wrote a letter to the fans outlining some of his goals as commissioner, and proposed changing to a Super-Bowl like bidding process for the MLB All-Star Game. Also expected to change under Manfred’s watch are pace-of-play rules in an attempt to accelerate the speed at which games are played. While implementing pitch clocks and instituting new baserunning rules have garnered plenty of attention, a new change may have a larger impact on baseball. According to Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports, MLB will consider changing the size of the strike zone as early as the 2016 season: "Major League Baseball is considering altering the textbook definition of the strike zone for the first time in nearly two decades, fearful that the proliferation of the low strike has sapped too much offense from the game, league sources told Yahoo Sports." The MLB Playing Rules Committee, which must approve any change made to the MLB rulebook, is expected to keep a watchful eye on the strike zone this season and how it affects the amount of runs scored per game. Whether or not the strike zone should be completely blamed is debatable, but stats reveal the average runs scored per game has declined every year since 2006. The 4.07 runs per game in 2014 is the lowest scoring average in MLB since 1981. The fact that, best case scenario, this change could increase scoring by a fraction of one run makes it seem like a small change. But considering the decline in baseball viewership in recent years, along with the increased interest in the NFL and NBA — two leagues on the vanguard of change to appease fans — it could be beginning of something bigger.
how exactly does miami deserve an all star game? i guess manfred wasn't awake when loria's last fire sale occured or maybe the acquisition of dee closed the deal or maybe, just maybe [as the thread title infers] this guy could be even worse than selig a couple months ago, i wouldn't have thought that possible Miami Awarded 2017 MLB All-Star Game by Matthew Moreno | Dodgers Nation — 14 minutes ago Since taking over as commissioner of Major League Baseball, Rob Manfred has discussed multiple changes he hopes to implement, including shifting to a Super-Bowl like bidding process for the All-Star Game. Manfred’s comments came well after the 2015 game was awarded to Cincinnati Reds and 2016 to the San Diego Padres, making 2017 the first year a new process conceivably could be used. However, on Friday Manfred announced the Miami Marlins will host the 2017 summer game: With Miami marking a third-consecutive year in which the All-Star Game will be played in a National League stadium, the American League will be considered the home team in San Diego: The All-Star Game will be Miami’s first and it’s a reward of sorts from MLB for the franchise’s building the new stadium, which opened in 2012. As far as more-recently built stadiums that have yet to host the summer game, Nationals Park and new Yankee Stadium still await their opportunity. For the Los Angeles Dodgers, the decision to play the 2017 game in Miami means it will be at least 38 years between All-Star Games played at Chavez Ravine.
First I'd work on ideas to have strikes/balls called consistently, before trying to change something that is already a bit arbitrary. I'm tired of hearing that everything is about "scoring more runs". Let's just put the ball on a tee, use aluminum bats, defenders can't move until the ball hits the ground, and the first team to 50 runs wins.
Here, here! I personally would like to see the game return to the sixties, when pitching was king and offense was at a premium.
And let the hitter beware when he steps into the box. I still love the story (I think it was Mays) who dug in a nice toe hold in the box preparing to face Drysdale, and when he looked up to see Big D glaring in at him, called time and filled it back in. (I don't advocate head hunting, but I do believe in purpose pitches.)
i highly recommend this book i'm reading it for the umpteenth time players, coaches and managers from all different talk about respect/disrespect/retaliation/beanballs/brawls and more and since they're all retired they pull no punches
