Jeff Passan @JeffPassan 1m1 minute ago Sources: Dodgers agree to deal with Japanese RHP Kenta Maeda. Details still being worked out. Won't be official for days. @DfineNRMLC 1st.
Nightenfail is reporting that we are still in talks with the Rays and the Marlins in addition to re-tweeting the Maeda news. Blockbuster is brewing I feel it.
My thought exactly. Guessing $100M+ (Not including the posting fee) and heavily front-loaded before the opt-out, the reverse of the Giancarlo Stanton deal.
More I think about this, I really like the signing (without knowing the contract details of course). Really interested to see what moves we'll make in the trade market to bolster the roster.
Read that Maeda has been pitching in Japan for 8 years so maybe the signals were crossed with regard to the length of the deal?
Joel Sherman @Joelsherman1 Told Maeda agreement with #Dodgers is complicated and at least 5 yrs, and loaded with performance bonuses.
They're going to trade everyone they signed, eat half of the contracts and get ten prospects. Three of which are recovering from injuries.
Bill Shaikin @BillShaikin 5m5 minutes ago Source: #Dodgers deal with Kenta Maeda is close, but not finalized. ---------------------- Hold everything, for now.
To be honest. After the Grainkey, Price, etc. debacles. This is a snooze. They're desperate to win back some fans but to go after Kazmir and clearly OVER pay for the Sushi plate of the day wreaks of desperation. I hope it works but combined those two are still not Zack. Might as well make a deal for Capuano or Moyer.
No they aren't, but they can put 350 effective innings while Zack can only put up 220, and for cheaper than his $34M AAV.
They clearly overpaid for Maeda? There's been literally zero reports of a dollar figure. Maybe they did maybe they didn't, but seems like you've predetermined a reaction
