yeah but there's an etiquette involved
and the old school way is to do it without the anyone knowing
tilt your head down, claw the box with your spikes, and quietly say something
umps are no different than anyone else in that they don't like being shown up
i remember one time taking a called strike three that was clearly off the plate
i said nothing, made no gestures
next time up the catcher goes out to the mound
umpire (with his mask on) says "i may have missed that last one on you, so i owe you one"
    i know... nice story bro
but if i would have bkitched and/or been demonstrative, i would have to be up there hacking the rest of the game

Keep getting spanked by the d-bags and Rockies.
Playing our last three games in Coors Field is a terrible scenario. No team should have to suffer it

Of course that way can work too. I just don't worry about my catcher talking up an ump because he'll have ample opportunity to walk it back. They have so many back and forths with umps during games/over the years that there's just a foundation there that non-catchers don't normally have. If Yasmani starts losing strikes, I'll begin to worry.

    Wait, we killed it?

I always heard it was the Pads who decided against it?

    yeah but

yeah but how many years in a row did we all complain about ending with a 3 game series at the Stick in the fay?

    Winners win. wherever.

    http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-shohei-ohtani-20170930-htmlstory.html

    ...
Had Ohtani stuck to his original plan of moving abroad out of high school, there’s a chance he would be preparing for the National League playoffs right now.

Many MLB teams were courting him, but he was thinking of signing with the Dodgers.

“I can’t say that for sure, but there’s a strong possibility that’s what would have happened,” he said.

The Dodgers scout in Japan at the time, Keiichi Kojima — now a consultant for the Arizona Diamondbacks — had gained Ohtani’s trust by attending Hanamaki Higashi’s practices on nearly a daily basis.

Ohtani’s dilemma then had one striking similarity to his present-day one: There were new limits on how much MLB teams could pay amateur players. The most the Dodgers could offer him was around $1 million, which was less than he could get from an NPB team.

“I still want to go,” Sasaki recalled Ohtani telling him.

One of the reasons was that American teams saw him as a pitcher; Japanese teams wanted him to hit.

The Fighters disregarded the request Ohtani made to NPB teams to not draft him and offered him an alternative: Do both.

Was reported a long while back that LAD had a scout over there damn near living with Ohtani's family, getting close to them. Kojima's that guy, I guess.

i know its after the fact
but have to wonder what it would have taken to get doolittle
looks like the nats gave up a couple of promising low/mid level prospects so idk
but the guy has been fucken nails and would have greatly helped bridge the gap from starter to kenley

Doolittle's got those chronic shoulder issues, so maybe LAD wasn't willing to meet the asking price or beat the Nats out because of that
Nats were so desperate, Doolittle could've been on life support and they would've been sitting bedside with a contract

Not just Dolittle. Madsen or Kintzler would have been nice additions, too.

Yeah, LAD was rumored to be hot after Doolittle last year and wanted him in the Hill/Reddick package, but the value couldn't be determined because Doolittle was dealing with the shoulder stuff and inconsistency in performance. Beane wasn't going to sell him off at a low point..not a lefty with his talent

If he were a free agent, he would've been signed.
You start talking about trade compensation and that changes things.

Darvish Morrow Watson Cingrani are 4 nice improvements the FO made to pitching since the end of last year.
Plus the guys that have come up to provide help.
And the guys he got the year before in Maeda and Hill were big help too.
The breakout pitchers this year in Woods and Baez helped alot, too bad Baez cant be trusted and Wood is soft but they took big steps forward this year. Next year they may be able to fix the psychological parts of their game that are still holding them back from being great at their job.

Pitching is not a problem for us, we pitch by committee though which does not always put our best group working at the same time.
With the idea that by the time October rolls around you have a group of players from which to create that best group of pitchers for whatever specific team you are about to face.

I think October rolls around in about 3 1/2 hrs.
    NJ anyway.
Much much later in LA, I guess.
In NZ's town, it's almost November, I think.
