I thought we still have cap space because the Stephenson and McGee signings were for the vet and cap exceptions, so not part of the cap so long as they are officially signed once we've exceeded the cap with a Randle match or other FA signing.
LAL has no cap space currently, but the ability to create space by either renouncing or trading Julius, trading or stretch/waiving Deng. That aside, because it's sort of irrelevant..if LAL tries to sign/trade Julius ( he's probably going to get roughly 10-12M per), packaging him with a Deng that's making 18M next season, those combined salaries would be going to the Spurs and they have no cap space and neither would LAL in this scenario. Kawhi is making 21M next year, so there's a chance we're talking roughly a 10M difference in the incoming/outgoing salaries in this scenario and that doesn't work. So LAL would have to take somebody along with Kawhi..and as much as Pop picks on Pau, he'd probably try and send Pau back to LAL. LAL would probably counter and ask slo mo Kyle Anderson to accept his QO @ around 5M and for him to be the piece coming with Kawhi. For example; Kawhi + Pau = 37M in salary Julius (sign/trade) + Deng + Zubac + 1st rd picks = roughly 32M in salaries, in that area And that trade would would be legal by rule, the total salaries have to be within 4 or 5M when teams have no cap space. All in all, doubtful
Eric PincusVerified account@EricPincus Feels to me like the Lakers quick trio of one year deals is a message to the Spurs that they're coming for their guy next July... Absolutely feels that way. Or SAS could accept Deng to get Ingram, Zubac and a 1st for Kawhi, at least come away with a couple nice, young pieces. That's probably the best case scenario for both teams right now, Spurs need to just face it. LAL would keep Julius in this scenario, ability to go over the cap to sign him. With all of the moves following the LeBron signing, they definitely focused in on defense and it looks like that's the overall focus, especially if you add Kawhi as well. Julius/LeBron/Kawhi/KCP/Zo is a hell of a defensive unit. And nobody is beating GSW without playing a top notch, physical brand of defense..trying to outscore GSW is no bueno
The CBA is a mess, but I thought a sign and trade is possible for teams over the cap but still under the tax apron. The apron is a higher number than the cap. I wish I had the link, but if you factor in the apron, it is possible for both the Spurs and Lakers to do a sign and trade. The current players on contract would put the teams above the cap, but not above the apron. We would need to throw in a Zubac to make the salaries work.
That's what I just said. Julius sign and trade packaged with Deng. The salaries just have to match up because both teams are over the cap and Zubac would help
Okay, I see. I think one problem with throwing in Zubac is I think the rule is in a sign and trade, the trade has to be done within 3 days of the sign. I thought it also had to be a min 3 year deal with 1 year guaranteed. So at least the Lakers/Spurs have 2 more days to get this done and also, I don't remember what deal the Lakers have Zubac.
It wasn't really a signing with Zubac. They just fully guaranteed his contract for next year It definitely feels like he's on the trade block, he's more of Pop's style, slower paced guy
Damn...Pelinka and Magic are smart. Just looked up Zubac's signing. He had a 3 year deal and the Lakers just guaranteed the 2018-2019 season. So I think he is absolutely available for sign and trade. So the clock is ticking with the Spurs.
It is so refreshing to have a FO now, after so much horsesh*t, that actually knows what it is doing. It's like Magic, Pelinka and Jeannie Buss is saying "The Lakers are back muthafuckers!!!!" That is probably why Buss tweeted to never underestimate the Lakers.
Have to give LeBron credit too for playing ball. He and his camp were swatting down the Spurs' attempts at building leverage one after the next. And then the ultimate swat - agreeing to be Laker on July 1st. He wasted no time, knows he has an impact. LeBron told Gilbert he was leaving for LAL on Saturday. I've long felt this was a lock, since he showed up to Zo's summer league game out of the blue, we're probably going to find that out soon. I mean that was too much to be a coincidence. And then Jeanie meeting several times with his business manager and his biz associates sitting in Jeanie's seats so many times this year. Dr. Buss is definitely smiling down on Jeanie, she pulled it off, did what she had to do. Best ownership group/family the city of LA has ever had, period
George/OKC thought they'd be leading off tomorrow. Shit, they may not even get a segment. For good measure, Magic should go ahead and trade for Kawhi as soon as the talking heads turn their attention to OKC to discuss what they did. Just pick a show, maybe 1st Take since Stephen A. is a loon, and just Woj bomb the hell out of them with some breaking news on Kawhi. Boy, would they be mad. The anger is already running rampant on twitter..it's awesome. Stay mad Hahahaha
Don't know anything about crowning Jeanie. Do know it's perfectly fine to appreciate the job she's done in her short time as boss. If it's a 100 yard dash, the Buss fam/ownership group has about a 99 yard head start on all other ownership groups that have passed through LA. 10 titles in what? 38 years? Probably LA's only hope as far as the 3 major sports go. Instead of crowning her ass, you might wanna kiss it. Lol
Let's get this Kawhi trade done without fucking up my Summer League viewing experience Mo Wagner already locked into the SL after signing. Let's let Josh Hart live too. No Spurs for him.
PG: Lonzo, Hart SG: Kawhi, KCP SF: LeBron, Stephenson PF: Kuzma, Wagner C : Lopez, McGee So far it is looking like We lose Randal, IT, Ingram, Zubac and 2 future fist round picks. Add LeBron, Kawhi, Stephenson, Mcgee.
