All last year he gave up 4 runs or more 4 times, this year that number I already 5 and his FIP is 3.68. Having said that, he's on his career numbers based on traditional stats this year. Just food for thought.

he's also given up 2 runs or less 9 times -- 7 times 1 or less
if we're gonna nitpick this year vs last, kersh has already given up 35 earned runs after surrendering 37 all of last year
and his fip is up almost an entire point, and his whip is highest since his rookie year
    does that mean he sucks?
    no
he's still an elite pitcher and so is hamels
numbers are great, but sometimes they can be misleading and don't tell the whole story

Dodgers Focused On Acquiring Pitching Despite Offensive Slump
    Jun 25, 2015 9:36 AM

The Los Angeles Dodgers have been stuck in an offensive slump, but that hasn't changed their approach as the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline looms.

Andrew Friedman said Wednesday that his front office remains focused on bolstering a starting rotation that has lost Hyun-Jin Ryu and Brandon McCarthy to season-ending operations.

Adding an offensive reinforcement is "a lower priority," Friedman said.

The Dodgers have scored two or fewer runs in 21 of their last 38 games.

Sounds about right. We have in-house options that can bolster the offense, but upgrading the rotation should be priority #1.

Exactly this. A healthy Puig and Seager will completely change this lineup.

Given Puig's hand situation, it's unlikley both of those will occur any time soon.

I absolutely agree that the rotation should be priority #1, the offense will fix itself in time. We need another starter...now.

    the other thing
    you add another quality starter
anderson goes to #4 and bolsinger/frias to #5
they'll have a lot more margin for error against other teams #4's and #5's
moving from #3-to-#4 and #4-to-#5 may not seem like a lot, but it's actually huge imo

Let's not forget to get another late inning arm. I know league, Baez and those guys are coming back but another reliable late inning arm would be beneficial

    • The Dodgers had top scout Galen Carr on hand to watch Cole Hamels pitch at Yankee Stadium yesterday, as Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com reported. That outing likely did not do much to commend the lefty, but obviously the club will be looking at a much broader body of work in assessing whether to move on Hamels.

i hope the FO holds tight on this Hamels shit and makes a real run at Price. he's been ridiculous this year and is basically begging for his old buddy Friedman to pick him up. with the O's and Jays charging, and the Tigers finally falling flat..we'll see. Tigers really need him, but he's gonna be mighty expensive this winter.

Ryne Sandberg resigns as Phillies Manager
By Jeff Todd [June 26, 2015 at 2:30pm CDT]

Ryne Sandberg has resigned his role as the manager of the Phillies, he announced today. The Hall-of-Fame second baseman was hired late in the 2013 season after Charlie Manuel lost his job. He’ll be replaced on an interim basis by Pete Mackanin.

“With some leadership roles coming up, I think it was important for me not to be in the way,” said Sandberg, “but to allow the organization to go forward.” He explained that he “felt it was better now than later” that he hand over his role, citing the “accumulation of … losses” as the major factor in his decision.

Sandberg went on to reiterate that he was making the move now in part due to the team’s apparent decision to make changes in the front office, apparently alluding to the reportedly pending hiring of Andy MacPhail. “With some changes at the top looming,” he said, “I did not want to be in the way of anything happening and the progress going forward.”

GM Ruben Amaro Jr. and president Pat Gillick indicated that the move came as a surprise. While Mackanin will take over for the time being, the front office decisionmakers indicated that the process of filling the vacancy in the long term is still in the early stages. When asked when the upper-level changes would go through and who would decide on a new manager, Gillick declined to comment.

Expectations for the club were obviously quite low coming into the year, and it has not been pretty. The Phillies sit at 26-48 entering today’s action. It would be impossible to lay all (or even much) of the blame at Sandberg’s feet for the results, of course, as the organization all but declared itself in the early stages of rebuilding over the winter.

If that's true, it makes Amaro stating: "I was really surprised by this", pretty goddamn despicable.

Dodgers fall in middle of MLB Grammar Study
by Matthew Moreno | Dodgers Nation — 1 hour ago

For decades opposing fan bases of various sports teams have argued which is more passionate and knowledgable. Differing views amongst family and friends lead for interesting exchanges that at times, can perhaps result in too much of a heated discussion.

What’s not often, if ever, discussed, is which fan base excels in grammar, spelling, punctuation, and the like. As the Internet became a staple in the everyday lives of many, so too have message boards, chat rooms and the art of commenting back and forth on published online articles.

In collaboration with The Wall Street Journal, Grammarly used their algorithms to analyze 150 fan comments of 50 words or more from all 30 official MLB team sites. The American League as a whole averaged more errors per 100 words, and Los Angeles Dodgers fans fell squarely in the middle of the pack:

The results are less than favorable for Dodgers fans as they rank behind the rival San Francisco Giants and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. While the San Diego Padres have struggled on the field, their fans can take some solace in being the National League team that on average commits the fewest grammar errors.

Meanwhile it appears the NL East could use a grammar lesson or two as New York Mets fans rank dead last with the Philadelphia Phillies fan base only marginally better.

would love to have him here
but not for the return that assclown amaro will [almost certainly] ask

Hamels would consider trade to any team
By Charlie Wilmoth [June 27, 2015 at 2:38pm CDT]

Phillies ace Cole Hamels is “open-minded” to being traded to any team, including the Blue Jays and Astros, Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com writes. “I have not been approached,” says Hamels. “When I’m approached, then I can make a decision and provide an answer about a team. But I’m open-minded on everybody and everything.”

Hamels’ contract allows him to block trades to all teams except the Braves, Cardinals, Cubs, Dodgers, Mets, Nationals, Padres, Rangers, and Yankees. Previous reports had suggested he would block trades to the Blue Jays and Astros if given the chance, but that apparently isn’t the case.

Hamels adds that he didn’t foresee the Astros’ strong performance this year when he failed to mark them for inclusion on his list of approved teams. “They just didn’t make the nine-team list,” he says. “When I made the list in October –- who knew?”

The Phillies owe Hamels about $86MM guaranteed through 2018, including a $6MM buyout on his vesting/club option for 2019. As Salisbury notes, the absence of certain teams (such as the Red Sox, although it now appears less likely that the Red Sox would acquire him after their underwhelming start) from Hamels’ approved-trade list could give him leverage to ask the team acquiring him to pick up his option. Hamels has lately been connected to the Yankees and Rangers as well as the Blue Jays.
