Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports spoke with Price's agent, Bo McKinnis, this morning at the Winter Meetings and was told that Price would not sign a long-term deal if he were traded to the Mariners. McKinnis told Rosenthal that Price would consider signing an extension with other clubs, but wouldn't disclose which clubs in which Price would have interest. does this mean we're back in play? guess it (still) depends on what we have to give up... __
He didn't exactly nix a deal w/ Seattle, just said he probably wouldn't sign an extension with them. They could still trade for him to have him for 2 years then let him go (or re-trade him before).
Hahaha my bad i just saw nixes trade I think for the mariners they are gonna trade for one player and use money for another... One being a bat another a pitcher. If they feel that price isn't worth it after this, they'll go hard to trade for a bat (Kemp) and use money for a pitcher (garza/tanaka) Just my hunch
agreed don't think seattle's done by any means but you got me thinking... if you were seattle, would you give up a walker and/or zunino for (possibly just) 2 years of price? idk...
not surprised one bit. one of the main sticking points in a Price trade has always been his willingness to stay wherever he goes long term. that's why i knew there wouldn't be this huge pool of teams going for him. Price has more power than people realize here...it's almost the equivalent of what happens in the NBA...impending free agents just tell teams that are after them to not waste their time...except in baseball they don't fuck with your money/offer you 1 less year when you leave your team.
would be the worst idea ever...Tampa is moving him early and STILL having trouble getting teams to anti-up their biggest young chips for him. Seattle would get next to nothing for Price a year and a half from now because his power will only increase. there's 1 clear cut suitor for Price right now and it's LA because he wants to be here.
even with this news...the Dodgers should proceed very carefully here. they don't have to trade for Price. he's a free agent soon enough and if they really want him/wanna spend money THAT bad...they can land him as a free agent. at this point, if the Rangers and Seattle are off the board as potential suitors...i wouldn't send Seager, i wouldn't send Joc, and i wouldn't send Urias. i WOULD, however, build a package around Zach Lee...maybe offer up Stripling and a bullpen arm like Dominquez. if i'm Ned i'm not gonna bid against myfuckinself for somebody that i can sign in the near future. Seattle has what we really need right now in terms of young/everyday players...they come first.
If Seattle doesn't sign Tanaka I'd be stunned. That to me is the most obvious move for them, as it adds an impact talent for nothing but money, and gives them flexibility to address hitters in the trade market. Interesting to me they're not linked to Ichiro to be honest. They need an OF and the Yankees need to trade him.
Seattle's only problem is the Dodgers and the Yankees are thinking the same exact thing. lol just downplaying it publicly because it's gonna be a hell of a bidding war and nobody wants to make anybody else mad and more willing to overpay by 20-30M...lol...because literally all 3 teams could give Tanaka 20-25M a year and not give a damn because of these TV deals and uber-rich owners. Tanaka is gonna be a rich kid...can't see him wanting to stay in Japan.
i assume Seattle is set on trying to provide protection for Cano with it's outfield openings. Ichiro's not really gonna bring that. plus they need a right handed/power bat more than anything being that their lineup is so lefty-heavy. they have to be keying on Nelson Cruz right now with a Kemp deal in the corner of their eye.
The signed Cory Hart and traded for Logan Morrison. If that isn't protection, I don't know what is. ..LOL What is sad is that it's still better than the shit Donnie Dum Dum was doing with our Five hole this past season. Hairston Urine Ellis Schumaker Federovich Kemp Hernanadez FML (ineup)
