I predicted you'd say that..I'm right again. Hahaha All jokes aside, though..good timing. Combined with the current topic..it reminded me of how you were certain that Shields would get 5yrs guaranteed/100M, and how I said he'd be in the 72M range. I was right there..not that I'm the only one with a good grasp of Shields' value, or that it was a tough prediction. Just sayin..good timing, brotha.
I know..a 5th year club option. Not guaranteed. McCarthy has the same club option/non-guaranteed 5th year.
I feel like his last two guaranteed years are gonna be declined by the Dodgers and that he'll be playing elsewhere after the 2016 season anyway.
So are you saying we will just cut him after next year or trade him? $48M for 2 years? Sounds like a deal!
I see him being traded after the 2016 season. And if not then, DFA'd or traded after the 2017 season. I'll be shocked if he's still on the roster to start the 2018 season..that'd mean the farm has failed to produce starters and I don't see that happening. Given good fortunes health-wise, Urias and Chris Anderson are ready after 2016 ( maybe sooner) with De Leon coming after them. That's excluding some others who could step in ( like Wieland/Lee) as well as some other young guns who could be at the top of their farm by then ( Holmes and Yadier Alvarez).
But if we DFA him, we are still paying the money, which makes my point stand. Either way, we all have our opinions and clearly there is a group that like sthe McCarthy signing and a group that hates it.
That wasn't what I meant, though. " Anyway, I see him being traded after the 2016 season. And if not then, DFA'd or traded after the 2017 season. I'll be shocked if he's still on the roster to start the 2018 season..that'd mean the farm has failed to produce starters and I don't see that happening. " - me So not DFA'd after 2 years..traded. DFA'd after the 3rd year if it comes to it and they can't trade him. I don't think it matters if a person likes it or hates it..they just need to understand why he was signed and that it falls into what the front office was looking to do. They've done everything with flexibility in mind. Everything.
Flukey injury history, right? Ned would get raped for signing him. Sucks that this happened, but not surprised.
Lay off the gas man. It's fundamental science. Ned knew Schmidt's shoulder was shit. You can't predict when someone's elbow is going to snap; whether it's an injury prone guy or not. Look at Fernandez/Harvey.
and we thought they were wheeling and dealing to add more arms since the season began..it's REALLY on now. Haha highly interested in seeing the chain reaction from the FO.
This is true, you are correct. In that same light there are still pitchers known for being fragile or for being durable. Some guys can give you 200+ IP without an issue year in year out. No aches. No pains or sprains or strains. Some can't.
Bronson arroyo hadn't been on the DL in his career and had pitched 200+ IP year after year. His elbow popped last year. That shit happens to those with injuries elsewhere and to those who are clean elsewhere
a better example is Zimmermann and Price, but Cueto's been relatively durable as well, so whatever. just saying..everybody loves Zimmermann, but he's already had his UCL snap and had Tommy John. same goes for Strasburg..his snapped as well. Greinke talked about this a while back in an article and said he was trying to work his delivery to take pressure off the elbow and perfect that art..you see him use a lot of " legs " and balance in his delivery. that may not work either, though. Hershiser had a history as a durable pitcher before his elbow blew up. he got the TJ surgery and went back to work as durable guy. you can't predict it..they now have some kind of sleeve that guys are wearing to try and track the stress level or whatever..we'll see.
Tough call... both are good pitchers Cueto is perhaps the better overall pitcher but... Zimm has dropped his WHIP every single season.. though not as low as Cueto who also has a slight edge in other categories So are Cueto's recurring lat injuries enough to sway my view? Not so much.
