    Flowers in the stadium?

    So. Fucking. Classy.

Until the cholos show up threatening everyone to do the wave when we're down by five.

So is everything done? It would be weird to watch the game and the stadium still needs som construction.

I know Staples Center is not even half of Dodger Stadium in capacity...but the Dodgers should take a page out of Staple's book and pad every single seat. They can afford anything, why not take a few thousand seats out, increase arm and leg room, and pad the hell out of the seats? You're never gonna sell 56,000 tickets on a regular basis. More arm/leg room and padded seats!!!

Didn't they do something like that, or are at least planning to? I think the moved some seats from the reserve levels. Although I may have imagined that.

    $$.

It's only $$. And it appears that GG has plenty to spare...

They took out the last 4 rows of every level to widen the concourses.

What I'm talking about is less seats per row and spread them a several inches to increase room. Pad the seats too instead of that hard plastic.

    I fully agree.

It's the backroom bean counters who don't.

GG appears to have their own brand of bean counters though common logic throughout the league and for all stadiums is to cram people in for max ticket sales.

An extra 1" per side per seat would lose 1500-2000 seats which might mean bookoo lost $$$

Bean counters see little if any upside to user comfort ... BUT... if we're not having to solve ONLY for max profit then all kinds of other things can change.

Have you seen our heard about the new movie theaters that charge $20 per ticket but offer recliners, waiters and table service? I could totally see the GG guys taking the current Field and Loge VIP seats and starting there. Class the place up a notch or three...

My thought is it's impossible to average 56,000. How many sell outs do they really have? We led the league in attendance in 2009 averaging 47k. They should use this season as a test dummy yo see what the optimal turnout will be over 81 games with a top tier team, and adjust capacity accordingly.

56K is a LOT. It makes a huge crowd look like an empty stadium. Reducing to say...50K would still have us as the biggest stadium. Instead of covering tarps just spread the seats out and make the stadium more comfortable.

To your last point, Doyer was saying Peter Guber talked about ordering and paying for concessions on your mobile devices and having it delivered/available for pick up.

I hadn't really thought about the stadium capacity issue quite like that. Indeed we do have by far the largest stadium capacity in the MLB. Many others are in the 35,000-40,000 range. I never really thought Dodger stadium was so large... because it isn't... it's just tightly packed with seats by previous tightwad owners.

I like the mobile phone concession ordering though... text me when it's ready so I don't waste an inning in the damn lines...

Actually, Dodger Stadium is massive. It's definitely a 60s park. New Stadiums are built small, with quarky seating. The Dodgers have a 4 tiered, and two pavilion set up, perfectly symmetrical. Other parks have only a couple decks, all shaped differently and smaller. AND, like you said, packed in with seats. But it's not just packed seats that make capacity so big. It's clearly a very large structure for baseball.

So yes, newer stadiums have more portioned seating--but that's because it's built into their design. Dodger Stadium legitimately would need to be creative if they try to portion less seats over their massive concrete structure.

Yeah I think that they could reapportion the seats left to right without issue but getting you more knee room isn't going to happen
