    poor desperate braves

By Jeff Todd [March 24, 2014 at 7:17pm CST]

7:17pm: The Braves have announced that Harang has agreed to a MLB deal with the club.

6:09pm: The Braves have agreed to sign pitcher Aaron Harang, reports Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports (via Twitter). Atlanta had been rumored to be interested in adding another arm after parting with veteran Freddy Garcia earlier today (per MLB.com's Mark Bowman, on Twitter).

Of course, Harang himself was let go by the Indians just hours ago after requesting his release. The soon-to-be-36-year-old had strong results in the spring, though he threw just 9 innings for Cleveland. Last year, pitching for the Mariners and Mets, Harang posted a 5.40 ERA in 143 1/3 innings. Before that, however, he put up two consecutive seasons of 170+ innings and earned run averages just over 3.60. Unsurprisingly, perhaps, advanced metrics pegged his value somewhere in the middle, with FIP, xFIP, and SIERA marks all falling above 4.00 but below 5.00 over the last three campaigns.

By Jeff Todd [March 26, 2014 at 11:28am CST]

The Angels have released Joe Blanton, Angels communications director Eric Kay announced on Twitter. With the move, the Angels will eat $8.5MM (Blanton's 2014 salary and 2015 option buyout).

Needless to say, the signing of Blanton to a two-year, $15MM contract last year has not worked out for the Halos. Blanton, 33, threw to a 6.04 ERA in 132 2/3 innings last year, though there was at least some hope of a rebound given his 3.18 K:BB ratio and 3.84 mark in both xFIP and SIERA. Then again, Blanton has consistently underperformed against those metrics in recent seasons. While there had been some consideration of Blanton starting out in the bullpen, the club apparently decided to cut ties after a spring in which he surrendered 16 earned runs in just 20 1/3 innings.

well I mean of course. I bet the majority of those voters just read headlines and when headlines are always just "Puig does thing X wrong" "puig rubs people wrong way" " Puig causes cancer", and hardly anything good he does is highlighted than of course people will think of him negatively. Generic sports fans can be dumb and it's easy to get them to love some sort of easy view on someone.

the california vote is skewed by angel, giant and padre fans
and they're are a lot of d'fag fans in new mexico
funny, though... the majority of those who voted "don't like him" would love him if he were on their shitty teams

    Tigers, Miguel Cabrera have deal
    By Jerry Crasnick | ESPN.com
    Updated: March 27, 2014, 6:43 PM ET

Two-time American League MVP Miguel Cabrera has agreed to terms with the Detroit Tigers on a new 10-year contract that will pay him just under $300 million, a baseball source told ESPN.com.

The new contract, which covers the two years remaining on Cabrera's current deal and eight additional years, is expected to become official later this week, the source said.

CBSSports.com earlier reported Detroit and Cabrera were closing in on an agreement that would make the superstar slugger a Tiger for life.
