I just hope we can somehow get deep into the summer months within striking distance. And then health, young guns getting a real chance, and a couple moves will get us back where we need to be.

Squandering past playoff opportunities make this transition phase a lot harder. Because we're stuck a bit. If you deal Urias now (for example), why wouldn't we do it a year ago when we were closer to a WS? You know? Bad example and I'm not getting my point across very well. But we're in a weird spot right now.

    totally agree
    hindsight will always be 20/20
all these prospects we have are a great luxury
but let's be honest -- they're not all going to be superstars
have to take a chance every once in a while and deal one of them if it means getting a hamels type player in return
    easier said than done, sure
and i'm not saying you unload your top guys for a shelby miller
but there have been opportunities in the past...

This goes back before the Nerds, too. Sadly.

2004, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2013, 2014, 2015. A lot of playoff appearances but forgettable to the rest of the country because we ulitimately didn't accomplish anything. We were 1 player or 1 rib away most times.

Of all those playoff appearances, we are likely known best for Utley's slide, Kershaw's failures, and Matt Stairs.

Getting off track here, but yeah.

    all those hurt
    i remember as a kid how much 1974, 1977, 1978 and 1980 hurt
but 1981 made all that suffering worth it
same with 1982-87 and then winning it all in 1988
it felt like an eternity between 1981 and 1988
if i only knew what was in store...
i would have appreciated it more back then

    I remember the Koufax-Drysdale era.

I came to expect the Dodgers in the Series. Anything less was a failed season.

'74, '77 and '78 were championship caliber teams who couldn't get over the hump against great A's and Yankee teams. The '81 team got some measure of revenge against the Yankees. Everyone loved the '88 team, but that was a fluke.

I don't think there have been any Dodger teams since that have touched those late 70s, early 80s teams. But they were good enough to win a Series or two ala the Giants or the Cardinal teams which had less the overwhelming talent.

There's no reason a team with the resources, the fans and the tradition of the Dodgers should be without a title since 19fucking88.

Somewhere there's a Joanie Mitchell, Frank McCourt, put up a parking lot smart ass remark, but I can't come up with it.

At least the Yankees got World Series when they outspent everyone. 250 mil doesn't even get us a competent fucking reliever.

No matter how each of us feels, this is probably one of the more successful threads of all time. It will have relevance, intrigue, and plenty of debate for years to come.

Nerds suck big time. These guys are like the smart aleck student who thinks they've spotted a major error in the SAT, when it was really their sorry ass egos that could not admit they just got it wrong. Big time.

Good post Anakin...what gets me is that it's supposedly "a feather in their cap" they didn't overspend for Greinke or Price or Cueto...but the 22 mil they paid for the Wood piece PLUS his salary is just forgotten about...not worth mentioning at all. That's an expensive toilet bowl they are throwing it all down.
Now maybe those guys will suck elephant penis (I think not eventually; they will rise to the top), but are Wood and Kazmir good pitchers? Salivating over Wood's Ks, but look the other way on 3 HRs in 5 innings? C' mon...
I give them a bit of a pass on the lineup...if everyone hit like they are capable of, we'd be much better.
But to not improve the rotation or the pen is sacriligeous...even after the Chapman bullshit, they shouldn't have left it to what it is now. Everyone knew JP was near the end, Baez/Yimi a hot cold duo. Hatcher is an accident waiting to happen imo...just no consistency. Weak.
I see us presently as a .500 team, give or take a few. Hopefully some things will straighten out before we get buried by the better teams...but honestly, what is there to wait for? The lineup to come around perhaps...but good pitching stops good hitting, right? Like the Mets? Nats? Cubs?
I think the aim is "to be competitive" and get tne payroll down down down, eventually. The WS?
Something, that if it should happen-great. If it doesn't? No sweat. Let's be the Rays. And get all the praise.
Time to remind everyone... Kasten said so...and that's the important thing, right?
