I see the argument on Grandal for sure. Just think he’ll always have trade value. The Yankees were able to move McCann on a similar contract to what Grandal should get.

As for Machado, I don’t agree with the last point. How sure are you Justin Turner at 33 will still be a 3B? David Freese and Chase Headley were the only 3B in baseball last year 33 or older to qualify at the position. 1B would probably be his optimal position at that point anyway. No concern about Belly at 23-24 in left at all, and Machado would just be entering his prime so even a 10 year deal doesn’t seem too scary for him. I think Stanton’s deal is an albatross in those last few especially since he’s barely an adequate RF now.

They aren't going to re-sign Grandal, which is why it makes sense to move him now. The thing is, there is not suspected to be many great trade options, so it also makes sense if they decide to hold onto him and hope something comes along during the season. A good point was brought up before that Grandal was not known for having the greatest of clubhouse chemistry prior to his Dodger days. Not saying that he hasn't changed, but there is worry that if he comes into his walk year as a backup, he(and his agent) may not handle it all that well considering he is regarded as a top 10 catcher in the game. Like it was said earlier, the Dodgers are loaded with depth at catcher, so the organization may feel comfortable moving him for something that could help fill a need someplace else, but they also aren't just going to give him away.

How is he barely an adequate RF? He had 4 errors in 149 games last year. He also had a 6.7 UZR rating last year. My understanding is that between 5 and 10 is a good UZR rating.

Naw, but yeah, but naw at this particular moment.
Buss kept fucking up waiting for LeBron and other dudes who never wanted to come here and play for them.
Mitch and specially Kupchack were not liked by NBA players, agents, or even other GM's.
Not on a personal level but because they did not know how to play the game. The GM/Owner game.
They wanted to play it like if they were Jerry West and Jerry Buss but only those guys could play it that way, and it was a different time.
Now nobody gives two shits about your money or your pedigree. You gotta woo these fuckers because that is all they know.

Except when you get a guy like Stanton who is wooing your team.
    You go get that guy.

Yup. The business side of the game isn't really even going to allow for a 50/50 split between Barnes and Yasmani in Yasmani's walk year and that's understandable. He's one of the best in the league, so he should be starting 110/120 games, not 80. He and his agent will want max ABs going into free agency.

    Next upgrade.
We need donations for the next upgrade.
A good 5k would do it.
That should buy a new Super Like button and the much asked for dislike button.

That was one play.......obviously NOT the norm if his UZR is 6.7.

    I agree. Love that guy.
I thought I read you saying that there are only 2 guys past 33 that still play 3B.
I was like... this dude really forget about Tre?

Yeah what I meant was there were only 2 guys this year 33 or older who stayed healthy enough to be full time 3B. Most 33 year old 3B’s move positions or DH.

Carlos Beltran retires, pretty nice career
20 years, 9 time all star, 3 time gold glover, AL rookie of the year, one of the best post season performers ever and a title to cap it off

    6.7 is barely above average
    4.3 rngr, 1.8 arm
puig by comparison is 12.3 uzr, 7.3 rngr, 3.5 arm

but it's kinda pointless to argue
    you (and rube) want stanton
guys like me and @VRP do not
    let's just agree to disagree

It is not a 3b vs 1b thing.....it is an old thing. There are never going to be a ton of guys over 33 that qualify. That being said, 1b is not much better. This year 6 guys qualified, 5 guys last year, then 15 and 14 there were only 2 guys and none in 2013. I suspect MGT is taking a chance on Turner because he was a journeyman before he came to the Dodgers and because of that his "mileage" is not as bad.
Uh, actually 0 is average, 5+ is above average, 10+ is great, and 15+ is gold glove......as defined by FanGraphs. https://www.fangraphs.com/library/defense/uzr/
LOL.....no one is arguing, this is just discussion until we see that MGT has signed Ohtoni. Look none of us have any influence on what the Dodgers do....so we banter here.
