Before the gambling thing hit, it was already Ohtani this and Ohtani that. Now it's worse. Just looking forward to some actual real baseball. Glasnow gets his second "opening day" start of the season - pretty cool for him.

Still a lot of demons from last season middling about my head that need to get exorcised. It'll take time, but this could be a good first step. I don't buy Scarecrow's assertion for a second that the gambling controversy isn't a distraction. But hopefully they can all do their thing despite that. I think Lux is actually key. If he gets on base a lot in the nine hole, he will score a lot.

    Let's do this.

Of course they stop Betts at third he would have scored but no have to play it “safe”. Still not good base running just hate wasting outs …. Luckily Freeman comes through…..

Old bastard here with an old bastard take...

Distractions can hurt a team. In the social media age, it can be especially problematic.

But I recommend everyone read Bouton's Ball Four & Sparky Lyle's The Bronx Zoo. No team ever had as many distractions as those Yankee teams, and NY media were the original monsters of scandal. Even in Seattle with the Pilots, the team had guys doing everything BUT playing baseball. They were popping greenies & chasing skirts.

Fact iis ... if the 76 & 77 Yank teams can overcome distractions, so can this team. The problem is those teams had men like Billy Martin, Bob Lemon, and the Reds had Sparky Anderson while the Dodgers had Tommy. A master manager can deflect distractions. Scarecrow can't do that.

In the end, this team has a failure at the helm. That'll be their undoing in my estimation. I hope I'm wrong.

    Nice start. Well done.
Too bad about Paul GoldSMITH ( even miss Vinny's mistakes), we coulda had a no hitter. Or been a contenda.
Betts made an error, so obviously he sucks.
Glad for Outman...it was a bit concerning how he looked at the plate.
Nice outing from Glasnow, and a solid 3 from Yarbie.
Oh, and it comes as no surprise that Dave is now the new Tommy. I knew it all along...
    In Bizarro Universe, maybe.

Yeah, I hope the Betts experiment doesn't implode. I could see Davey not wanting to concede that it was a bad move and stubbornly keeping him there all year. That's two straight games with an error (almost had two in one inning on Tuesday). He seems to struggle a bit with the backhand. Of course, as athletic as he is, it might suddenly click for him and he'll look like he's played short his whole career. Just it was nice when we had two plus plus gloves and arms in the outfield with Betts and Belli, and now our OFers are good but I wouldn't say great.

Nice results. On to tomorrow. I am interested in seeing how Miller does. A lot of pressure on him as he is penciled in to be a high level starter….
I would say how long Betts is a short stop depends on Lux. And in a lessor degree Heyward If either one of them have trouble hitting over say 220…. Especially Lux who isn’t a plus defender then there is no reason to play Rojas over Lux. Or even Heyward…. If the bottom half of the line up is not hitting rhen you might as well ah e the best defense you can
