ETCINCINNATI -- Chris Capuano, starting in place of fellow Dodgers left-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu (stiff back), lasted just 1 2/3 innings on Friday against the Reds before exiting with a mild left groin strain, and manager Don Mattingly said his future status was uncertain immediately following the Dodgers' 3-2 loss. "We won't know if he'll make his next start or not," Mattingly said. "We will know more tomorrow. Chris was throwing the ball good." Capuano retired five of the first six batters he faced, but after recording his second strikeout on his 32nd pitch of the game, he was joined on the mound by catcher Tim Federowicz, head trainer Sue Falsone and Mattingly. After being examined, Capuano left the game and was replaced by right-hander Peter Moylan, who struck out Zack Cozart to end the inning. Injuries are nothing new for Capuano, who has been on the disabled list twice this season. A left calf strain put him on the DL from April 17-May 6 before he missed almost three weeks from May 30-June 19 with a left shoulder latissimus strain. In 21 appearances (19 starts) before Friday's abbreviated outing, Capuano was 4-7 with a 4.41 ERA. Stephen Fife, making his first Major League relief appearance, took over to begin the third inning, working around a walk before giving up one run in the fourth. After walking Reds starter Mike Leake to open the fifth, he was replaced by J.P. Howell. In nine previous starts this season, Fife was 4-3 with a 2.47 ERA. After being sent down in August, Fife rejoined the big league club on Sunday. __
