This whole bet exercise that you initiated was a waste of time being that nobody here has even made a point of declaring that LAD would land Harper in 2019.
I get that you're looking to throw down the gauntlet with a bet and look tough, but no.

I like beer, so I will actually take this bet. Since this debate is really less about Harper and more about the Dodgers paying big money for any free agent, I want a "$200 million contract" opt out clause. In exchange, we can change your claim to Harper never wears Dodger Blue as a FA, to Harper never wears Dodger Blue as a FA by 2019 - afterall, signing a 40 year old Harper to a one-year deal in 2033 is not the point of this exercise. Also, I want FA as it refers to Harper to include trading for Harper and signing him to an extension before 2019, on the off chance that happens.

Terms:

• Dodgers sign Harper as a FA by 2019, or Dodgers trade for and sign Harper to an extension by 2019 - Codge pays Mouse a 6-pack
• Dodgers Do Not sign Harper by 2019 AND Dodgers do not sign any FA* with a $200 million+ overall contract - Mouse pays Codge a 6-pack
• Dodgers Do Not sign Harper BUT do sign a FA* with a $200 million+ overall contract - Bet is nullified**

* in these cases "FA" does not include contract extensions or resigning players who finished the previous season on the Dodgers
** in the case of a nullified bet, it would also be acceptable for both parties to pay a 6-pack of beer, that way everyone wins

I cannot accept these terms. It's all about spending top dollar on the FA market. Any trade for rental and subsequent renewals are excluded. What I'm saying is the FO isn't going to get in a toe-to-toe bidding war for a major free agent. Once their threshold of value is reached they will bow out, just as they did for Grienke.

Counter offer: The Dodgers do not sign Harper or any other FA to a $200 M contract in the next 4 years. Exclusions are any player on the Dodgers roster who becomes a FA. Anyone else is included.
