And Toles ISN'T on the roster?
they're letting the bat boy hit?
As I have had to do so many, many times in the past, I have to accept the manipulations and machinations of the FO as genius in action, and only understood by a smallish group of intelligentsia.
On the outside looking in...
I agree with bz. Toles should be the CF and taylor the 2b.
Makes our lineup robusto.
I guess the thinking with Toles is that he needs everyday at bats to come back from injury which he might not get in MLB. I don’t really agree with this and think Joc needs the everyday at bats and that Toles should get everyday ABs in left field
I also think Taylor is 90% a CF and only an emergency at SS or 2B. He’s not a good defensive 2B from what they’ve seen and even from some of the game action we’ve seen. So he’s basically a CF who can play middle infield for a couple innings if necessary.
There have been a couple of red flags with Tolesy this spring, his K/BB rates and the SB thing. It has been touched on before that he probably needs a bit more seasoning/refreshing before being back with the big club. He is too fast to not be able to steal more bases and doing that with regularity in AAA should be one of the prime things he needs to work on. You can't really work on that with a club that is in the hunt for HFA. I personally have always hated the idea of a young guy coming up and being a part timer when he should be an everyday player(ESPECIALLY when coming off a lost season from injury). More often than not, it stunts the growth. Get him everyday AB's in OKC, have him face lefties and righties, have him steal every time he gets on base and in a couple of months, bring him up to play everyday when the Kemp shine has worn off(and it already has begun to).
It was funny how he was a SS/2B who we converted to CF and now he is all but useless at 2B?
If he plays the IF he might be better served as a 3B while Turner recovers.
IMO I still think Taylor should be used as a super utility guy who you work the angles with. Split him in CF against lefties and start him in the IF against righties.
If he can duplicate what he did last year then shut me up and let him play wherever but we can only hope he can do that.
He might settle in as a .270AVG .340OBP, 18HR 18SB, 60RBI type guy per 500 at bats. As your starting CF leadoff guy that is not super outstanding but it is nice either way. If you are getting that out of a super duper utility guy then you are ecstatic. Which is what we were with him last year.
Yeah that makes sense to me.
I dont think he’s useless at 2B/SS but he’s not trusted as a 9 inning game after game middle infielder. It’s been apparent for a while now that the Dodgers strongly prefer him in the outfield than in the middle infield when you look at all the players they’ve placed in front of him in the middle infield. He’s fine as an emergency or couple innings or one game a week maybe but his defense up the middle just isn’t good enough to be trusted as an everyday guy. It’s kinda like Barnes. He looks fine at 2B and 3B when you see him there for 6 innings a week but you look at his mechanics and compare him to a real 2B like Logan and you realize he’d be badly exposed if he’s theee for a long time
True, but we are the NL, we have a bench and a manager.
Give him 6 innings in the IF then bring in Logan to save the game and move him to the OF.
Maximize run scoring potential early in the game to give your starter some breathing room and possibly save some of your bullpen.
Then at the 6th or 7th bring in key defensive guys at points where the matchup allows for value in a double switch.
Right now we could use him at 3B and Logan can stay at 2B.
We have a glut of OF. Instead, we will see more Utley at 2B which should not be a good thing. If anything you want to conserve his minutes for late in the year.
I want to see more Kike instead of Utley which is how I think they will go.
It is fitting that Joc and Kike make the starting lineup for opening day as a reward for their good play in the postseason.
But is Kike really all that better at 2B than Taylor?
taylor is best in the outfield
and he's earned the right to start out there
toles is coming off injury and, as doyer alluded, would benefit greatly with (more) regular ab's in aaa
not to mention we have better options at 2b imo even with turner down
But but have you all forgotten how much you hated Logan Forsythe for 99% of last season?
I used to be the one telling yall that Logan would come around and that you should have faith in the nerds because this guy is a solid baseball player.
To me he is a 300 at bat a year player until he can prove he can hit right handers.
He is also much better as a leadoff hitter. He should start at 2B vs lefties and leadoff, then sop up innings defensively whenever it is needed and be the first man up to pinch hit or sub in when a lefty reliever comes up.
He was hot early last year too, then went straight into the tank after about a month and a half and was lousy down the stretch.
In the playoffs he was mediocre and had some timely hits but mostly a ton of walks.
most here were upset with his offensive struggles, at least initially
but no one, myself included, ever questioned his defense
even w/turner down there are better 2b options -- most notably chase and utley
and fwiw, logie will probably be at 3b for most of jt's absence
Ive never quetuoned his D or hus hitting vs lhp.
these fucking clowns don't have any idea how to shut off the sprinklers?
clearly a bust in a pipe
the ground crew guy should be fired if he can't figure that out by now
irish or finski or ruven would have had that off in 2 minutes what a bunch of dumbfucks
fuck just grab a couple of mexicans out of the stands and its off
just avoid mexicants
