Mitch and Jim rebuilt the team post Shaq and won two titles and they'll do it again. They swung big @ FAs for Kobe's sake, to try and win with him at the end and the effect from whiffing was missing out on middling free agents that would've made them just good enough to not be in position for Russell, Randle, and Ingram, yet still not title contenders. This is not rocket science, and the media is either playing fans for fools or they're retarded or ill-informed themselves. You don't Top 5/Top 3 protect all of your 1st round picks for nothing, you don't do it just for the sake of doing it. They were either going to go big for FA superstars or bottom out for young players with superstar upside, that is it and that is all. Where they are right now is in a spot where they now have all of the young players that they need, they have the new coach that they coveted, and now they're going to start building towards winning games and getting their young players some winning experience.

You cant lump the two deals under the same thesis when moz gets 30 million more and they are very close in terms of overall talent. It is a new NBA but its the same sad desperate state of affairs for LAL.
Being close in overall talent, I don't agree with that, but that's neither here nor there either. Point being, Mozgov plays a position where quality is scarce and Dellavedova doesn't. It's why the big man market usually plays out quicker. I'm not even sure if spanky was comparing the two, Dellavedova getting almost 10MM per is a sign of the times on it's own...it's a deep guard rich league and even he's cashin out.
That would be a matter of opinion. IMO, under the old cap Della would have been lucky to pull down $3 M/year. I will agree that this was probably a desperation move for the Lakers as it seems that no free agent centers were even interested in playing for them. So this might have been the only shot and they probably needed to kick in a bigger salary to convince Moz to sign.
