    I could see the FO going after Max in the off season cause Zack may opt out after next season and is no guarantee to come back. Although I would rather have Zack more than Max but to have both along with Kershaw would just be filthy!! :D

    More importantly, I hope that option on Haren's deal will not vest!! One year of that dude is already too much! And I know he is not THAT bad but his fastball makes me cringe every time he throws it! :eek:

    Hasn't Lee already said he won't come to LA or something?

    This discussion happens every year. I'd love to get him because he's such a great pitcher, but his price will be high because of Amaro, and he has a no-trade clause and I'm pretty sure we're one of the teams he doesn't want to be traded to.

    but (and this is just a guess) they probably doubt/question his ability to interact/deal with other gm's

    I think this is a big part of it. Granted, we have Ned Colletti, but you need to be able to wheel and deal with other GMs who want nothing more than to get something great in return for something mediocre.

    Being a great judge of talent might not translate into a strong enough presence to deal with other GMs.

    But we have Ned Colletti, so this is just speculation on my part.

    A Rays source recently was succinct about this: If the Rays are in the division or wild-card race at the end of July, Price will stay. If not, Price will go. The asking price for Price is exceptionally high, and the Rays are not going to settle for anything less than getting exactly what they want. If they don't get it, they can wait to deal him in the offseason or even at next year's deadline. But the most they will ever get for him is right now because he can affect a pennant race this season and next. The problem is, so few teams have the prospects necessary to get him and the money to sign him long term. The Cardinals likely do. So do the Dodgers. And so do the Giants, maybe. The next 2½ weeks will be fascinating.​
