He came up with Cey, Garvey, et al. His numbers in AAA rivaled theirs.

Never came close to that in MLB, but he put together a pretty decent and long career.

Always heard he was a pretty good guy by some of his peers.

Very affable guy. The team has met some old ballplayers ... it's good for that to happen. The coach here was a 7-year utility MLB guy of no major fame, but he's a solid LB Dirtbag. So he's cool.

3yrs/$50M for Jose Abreu, back to the WSox. So it looks like he will indeed continue his MLB career beyond the next couple seasons

    Scott Merkin@scottmerkin
White Sox and Jose Abreu agree to three-year, $50 million contract

Still crickets on the trade/FA front. Repeat of last year’s off season?

I just hope we don’t go into Spring Training with the same tired lineup.

    • Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman opined that opposing pitchers took advantage of Corey Seager’s tendency to swing at the first pitch during the 2019 season.
when reached for comment, opposing pitchers said they actually took advantage of Seager’s tendency to swing at any pitch

not saying donaldson is the same person or that acquiring him would net the same result
but the last time the dodgers signed an oft-injured free agent with an intense personality...
    just saying

Donaldson’s personality could be a factor
by Daniel Starkand | Dodger Blue — 2 hours ago

As the MLB free agent hot stove begins to heat up, one of the names to keep an eye on is third baseman Josh Donaldson, who had a bounce-back season with the Atlanta Braves in 2019.

Donaldson has accumulated plenty of accolades in his career, being named an All-Star three times in addition to winning the 2015 American League MVP Award while with the Toronto Blue Jays.

The 33-year-old additionally has dealt with some injuries though, which forced him to sign a one-year deal with the Braves last offseason to re-establish his value on the market, and he was able to do exactly that.

The top free agents available this winter include Gerrit Cole, Stephen Strasburg and Anthony Rendon. Donaldson is perhaps the next-best player available, particularly for teams in search of a third baseman that fall short of earning Rendon’s services.

Before signing Donaldson though, one thing teams will have to consider is his personality. According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Braves went through a bit of an adjustment period after signing him due to his loud and intense personality on and off the field:

As the Braves discovered, Donaldson can be a bit of an acquired taste — as one club source put it, “he’s loud, in your face, an alpha who will test the room.” He went through an adjustment period in Atlanta, and Freddie Freeman talked with him at one point about better fitting into the clubhouse, the source said. But Donaldson eventually found his niche, and the Braves came to relish his daily intensity and competitiveness.

One team that has shown significant interest in Donaldson this offseason is the Los Angeles Dodgers. They have also been linked to Rendon but have been unwilling to sign players to long-term contracts in the past, so Donaldson could be a solid backup option.

If the Dodgers were to sign a third baseman, Justin Turner is reportedly open to moving to the right side of the infield, which would help solve a long jam.

As far as Donaldson’s personality, the Dodgers have a lot of quiet players in their clubhouse, so they may actually benefit from adding someone like him to the mix. Couple that with his on-field production and the potential to sign him to a two or three-year contract, and the dots are beginning to connect for Donaldson to end up in Los Angeles at the end of the winter.

For Pete's sake..... can't we just go all in for a change and move for a Rendon, Stras, or Cole. Why the B team all the time.

I'm with you. It isn't as if Dodger game tickets, merchandise, or concessions can be any more overpriced as it is. Go ahead, Guggenheim. Overpay. At least then, when our Bums gargle nuts yet again in October, it won't be because the billionaires shopped at Big Lots to fill the roster.

I don’t even understand that report. After reading that I just thought, “yeah. No shit. And?” It would be weird if pitchers didn’t adjust their first pitch approach.

    Ahh... that’s a great first pitch against Corey. It’s also a good pitch if the count is 0-1, 0-2, 1-0, 1-1, 1-2, 2-0, 2-1, 2-2, 3-0, 3-1, or even a full count.

Id love Cole but I don't give it a chance. He comes off like a mercenary and as much as I'd love to have him pitch for the Dodgers I don't want him locked up for 8 years and 30+ a year.

I also don't want to buy high on Strass' arm. 31 years old with a 34 year old arm. Too many injuries to pay what Boras will demand.

Rendon is my ALL IN guy. Sure he has past injuries but at age 29 I'm ok with giving him 6 years. He is the kind of guy who puts a team over the top. Defense, bat, character. He also has the type of bat that helps him stay valuable in his 30's, even after his wheels get some wear on them.

    agree on all this
but who if anyone do we add to the rotation?
    what if ryu goes elsewhere?
then again, if urias is moved to the rotation (as friedman implied) maybe it's a non-issue...
a lot of options with buehler, urias, kershaw, may and gonsolin
maeda too, but imo he should be a pen arm
    same with strip
