RIP Pete Seeger. He was a good hippie icon, and I remember him well...a guy who loved peace and brotherhood when it seemed like there was actually a chance to have it (we so naiively thought back then). He was part of the hippie dream...thanks for tryin' bro.
^ me too man. Usually this time of the year I'm at least playing weekly so I get my baseball fix. Not this year. My team took time away from the field and I'm jonesing big time..When I finally set foot in the box ima take all my aggression out on that poor pitcher like one does to his wife after a night of throwing dollar billz at a stip joint..BOOOM
Well Rube, I'll try as you say; being a Dodger fan is superb training. It is said (American Indian) that" the true strength of a warrior is that he can wait". We here , on this website, are all in warrior training it would seem. But the longer I live, as I totter off towards antiquity, it all becomes more and more just like a dream and an idealistic, hopeful vision of a lost age. I do remember how it all seemed so real, and that perfect strangers I met, I considered my brothers and sisters, truly. The Age of Aquarius was no bullshit for me, and passed way too quickly. It was a joyous time, but now viewed as some quaint oddball period of Americana. In light of what has transpired since, maybe it all was. If I tell that now to younger people (almost everyone these days is now), they look at me with a jaundiced eye, and say "what is that old dude talkin' 'bout? At least I got to be part if it, and I must say, it was glorious, no matter how fanciful and unrealistic it all has become.
The Indian is in the same boat. Just like their warriors were brought low with booze and gambling so too the hippies lost their way with drugs and sex. It's the balaam doctrine. The enemies have used it to trick people into self imploding since the time men learned to trap game with bait. It's very much an empire vs the rebels thing. But the rebels are the kingdom come because empire is anathema. But no action taken in violent aggression has ever created anything stable. Non violence is the only way. Patience is not the same as doing nothing though. Non violence does not mean not fighting. Hippies field of battle is in the hearts and minds. It's is a dream from a long ago age. Just not the late 60s, that was it's modern renaissance. The water carrier is very significant, but you get more depth about these things from the signs in the book than the signs in the stars. Hippies were bamboozled just like Indians given free blankets. Free love, drugs, liberalism, politics, etc.. The movement in the 60s 70s lost its soul. But that's how it happens. That's the plan. There is always a remnant. The remnant is the best part. The cream of the crop. America is the crucible where the mettle is being refined. 6 times passing through makes this lead as pure as gold. The seventh run through the crucible leads to pure white gold. Gold pure enough to eat. Gold so light it rises above all materials. There is still gold in these hills. Just not the shiny. Your training is lifelong because you never know when you will be called in to battle The fight could come to you when you least expected, like a thief in the night. Water is what comes out of people when they shatter their dams and let the tears flow. We make water, make it rain, cleanse the world. We are mostly water. Historically we depended on living near water systems for life. We travelled the rivers like today's highways. Water = life Flood = lots of lives coming. What's the water carrier holding in his pitcher then? Reinforcements. Priests prayed for rain in times of crisis. The droughts been here for a long time. Lots of priests praying for rain now. We gonna need a bigger boat.
I am not even going to pretend to get this shit. My view of the 60s social culture is basically that it was a direct backlash to politics of that period coupled with the entrance of academics and the supposed enlightened. As great as I am sure that some of it was, the groundwork laid then (or the answer to it) has had a resoundingly negative effect on the generations that followed. Then again, I assume that most cultural movements of any period could have the same said about them.
hahah....That may be the way I went though that time, actually....like these emoticons. i definitely had stars in my eyes on occasion, for sure. No matter what blame can be, should be, or wrongly will be, laid at the feet of that generation, I'd take those days over now in a NY minute. This time is empty and cold. "The fault lies not in the stars, but in ourselves" -------W.S.
As I recall when we were protesting the 'secret' actions of a paranoid government that due to McCarthyism, hadn't been called on its shit in decades and there was a real 'establishment' push back from elders afraid of the new ideals we proposed and then what happened? we sold out for the house in the 'burbs. Couple of kids, couple of cars and life flies by daily the next time you look up from the rat race ten or 20 years have got behind you the 80's kids and then the 90's kids grew more self absorbed by the day only aware of what a screen told them accomplishment online replaced earning it the old fashioned way or so we say I'm hoping that the 2000's and the 2010's generations might catch the same civic duty civic pride that we had then lets see some 'active' democracy today the difference is that this time WE will be the elders and maybe the NEXT inspired generation will have a more receptive audience than we did back in the day
And I think a US president having most of his head blown off while riding in a car and assasinations of people who were trying (for whatever reasons) to make things better, or at least less evil, had so much to do with the frustrations that were crawling around in the heads of the "tune in and drop out" generation populace. I know we felt that everyone was completely utterly vulnerable and could be wiped out instantly if you pissed the wrong people off. It had a way of alienating the young and they just said "fuck it....light up and love the one you're with". Like the Green Beret at the bar in "The Deer Hunter", who toasted by saying "fuck it". Paranoia was blamed on drugs, and of course, there was a truth to it in some degree, but what were the headlines daily and the insanities of it all all that really did happen back then, and body count were the real culprits, IMO. Also, remember that many of that that generation went away and got killed , too, whether if it was for something you agreed with or not. Not hippies who just aged and assimilated into what happens inevitably as they get older, every generation. Talk about buzz kill. His bow tie was really a camera.
It's not thiss generation or that generation. It's a plan long in its unscrolling. vipers beget vipers. There are vipers all over, check yourself for venom and forked tongues. If you sneak around, hurt others and/or lie to people you might be a viper. Vipers like to kill the spirits of others. Like a vampire they thrive on sinking teeth into life and bleeding it dry.
there is no present there is no future there's only the past... repeating itself over and over - eugene o'neill
6 repeats Irish, time won't be broken forever Not random chaos but divine order. 7th is charm, time in. Time out will be over and we will be able to remove dunce cap.
Before JFK Vietnam etc... Americans were naive. After that Americans decided it was in their best interest to be naive The alternative was beyond the pale. Btw, this is similar to how made up religions start. Truth being to hard to take so adults give themselves a fairy tale to give meaning to the empty realisation of what is life and death in a material world. People have vivid imaginations. From where, the brain? Ha! I think no.
