    Yep. And it worked. Kinda.

So you name your kid 'Shithead' or 'Fatwah' or 'Pontifcating Crystal of a Faraway World' (Crystal for short) or any of the other stupid celebrity names like Dweezil or Moon Unit or Blue Ivy or North or Audio and then live with the mess made of their lives.

    Not me.
Naming kids is a big deal.

Yeah but you have to know what the name means.
And you have to know what your role in taking care of the child will be.
The best way the guy could take care of the child he was about to abandon was to name him Sue.
With that name the entire world would rear him in your absence.

The steppe people would do something similar. They would scar the faces of their boys as soon as they were born.
In the rough world of men, it is ruinous to be a metrosexual, especially back in the day. Mongols didn't stick around to be the best fathers.
Scarring the face would prevent a fine beard from being grown. It kills the follicle and beards grow in patches around it.
If you grew a nice fine beard you would want to take care of it.
And with that came taking care of your hair and your eyebrows and clothes and all sorts of things that over time change the way you think and act. You stop being manly when you care about how others perceive you. Especially when it is something superficial like looks or wealth.
So fathers would ensure the survival of their sons by making so they could never have beautiful beards.
And to know it was their own fathers fault. That would create that fire in the belly against their father.
Which every young hero needs to have so he eventually learn how to let it go and transfer the animosity towards the true enemy of both the young hero and his father.

because at some point there must exist 'some' tension regardless of how generations get along

Yeah I always liked the song, identified even, because I didn't see my old man for decades, and he was a dick but..

I STILL wouldn't do that to MY son. Not a chance. So I'm no Mongol, I can live with that.
I don't care about Johnny's moral in the song
He can write great touching songs... from his prison cell
While most of us would prefer to do a better job of parenting our children in the first place

You are not getting it because of your entitled status.
It's not about what you would do as a parent. It's not about you.
    This blocks you from understanding.
Mongols and by extension the father of the boy named sue do not share your entitlement.
The best form of parenting left to them in their particular situation is to scar the child for life.
That scar will be his badge or his protector because the father cannot be there.
It's not a measure of how you would not do that to your kid because you would do better.
    It is a different reality.

We scar our kids far worse imo.
Ultimately to protect our kids from the same bogey.

Yeah I got it buddy.. calling my status "entitled" is obfuscation. Or are we back to the "I had it harder so you couldn't know" schtick ??
But it doesn't because you're finally saying the same thing I did awhile back
Yep... as was acknowledged from the start

Now in the persistence of your argument are you openly stating that you intend, or have already done, acts to scar your children?

Yeah best not answer that one any further than you have....

That's a pattern where you try to end your posts with a sick presumption about me.
I guess I should blame your white privilege.

A society I belong to sent me an update about a petition I had signed some time ago.
without all the gory details, a guy threw a boxer puppy against a wall, then proceeded to stomp it to a point that humane euthanasia was the only recourse.
However, he was arrested and brought to trial.
Joyously, he got 12 years in prison. Good for you judge.
And may he serve every fucking minute of it in in excruciating torment.

I am not religious, but I sincerely hope that there is an excruciatingly painful, eternal hell for people like this. Prison is too good for this evil person.

Hopefully there are some pipe hitting maniacs that know this guy is coming.

upon reading this I'm recalling an admonishment given to me as a youth... "Be careful what you wish upon others for it reveals your inner face"

I don't always listen to that myself but it serves well when I do

OTOH animal cruelty sucks and this mental midgets life in prison servicing Tyrone will still end up better than the pups

(pup loving Tyrone cracks his knuckles and neck awaiting the cell transfer thinking "I'm your huckleberry")

In cases like this, I don’t mind revealing I’m a vindictive, revenge motivated, hater of all people who get their rocks off abusing an animal.

Then I, too, freely admit my "inner face" and abject loathing proudly...admonishment such as that probably should be offered to a kid pulling the wings off flies...in fact, maybe some guidance in this pig's youth might have served well as a deterrent to this gruesome act...but for me, at my age, this is what I truly hope for this inmate.
With a clear conscience and conviction.

OK too many nights in Asia.. Yes I have been served shark fin soup... to which I reply WTF is this all about?
Ancient Chinese customs = weak ass uneducated superstitions
But where do you get the 'torture the dogs so they taste better" part?? I mean really who makes that shit up?
I've seen dogs caged, but never tortured

Of course if you're about to be served as an entree, then at some point in time 'some' form of torture is going to happen to get you on a plate

    its the Yulin among others
heres a piece from your favorite CNN

Like dude like WTF.. since when is CNN "my" favorite??

I seriously monitor 20-30 major news outlets including primarily AP and Reuters..then Google news and then lot's of different others. It's OK to share a news story, that I clearly missed, without all the baggage. All cool.. I actually avoid Apple news because they slant so hard left even if their tech news is spot on, their social commentary is very highly 'progressive' in favor or humans rather than anything else.

And you KNOW how I feel about humans. LOL.

Ok I've not been to Yulin but I have been to Guangxi province.

In all candor it's a rather bleak place. However it is NOT so different from many other places in China.. and let me tell you that China is ANOTHER WORLD. No shit. Yeah not like Mexicali or Costa Rico but it's just different there. As in almost everything.. except capitalism. The rank and file Chinese 'grok' capitalism big time. Their gubberment would LOVE to get rid of it but... "someone has to turn the wheel of progress". The mindsets I've encountered in my 200+ nights are difficult to describe to a Westerner.

Yeah I have LOTS to share on this.. and much confirms what they present.. it's fucked. <rant to follow at a later date>

Ok rant = explain so I'll try to be concise.
@rube, please feel free to translate the metaphysical and societal issues because they are many.. yes I know that you haven't been there yet yourself but those like myself and @LAdiablo who have traveled internationally have seen 3rd world places where Life is negotiated differently.

Back to the story.. so China is way bahind us in many ways... I mean waaaaaay but on the other hand they are way in front of us in certain others.
One of the most crucial is that they have 1.4B people..
and they ran out of food 1000 years ago.
Settle on that for a few seconds
Their entire country has eaten EVERY SINGLE LIVING PIECE OF MEAT THAT EXISTS.. and that was 1000 years ago.
You know in the USA it doesn't matter where you go there are crows.. everywhere.. call them crows, magpies, whatever they're everywhere... but not in China
Feral cats.. LOL..feral dogs .. bigger LOL
Some hungry as fuck Chinese peasant has fed his children on that long ago.
You think I make this up but I'll listen only to those with MORE than 200 nights in China..
No birds fly in the air
    No 'hunting seasons' exist
Animals are commonly in cages outside of 'better' restaurants
In fact one of the things I enjoy is the 'better' restaurants that have 5-20 dozen aquariums in their lobbies
You get you walk through and pick your dinner
(Pro tip: select the ugly fish.. no shit ALWAYS better than some 'specimen' fish)

    But we're talking about dogs..
As stated earlier I've seen them in cages
Not necessarily tortured mind you .. but dinner none the less
I've been offered all sorts of shit.. and of course always turnd down dog
not that the next 'treated' customer did the same

But they honestly have NO food
    No beef or chicken industries
We shreik at the indecencies of modern chicken farming but we also get chicken at $1.99/LB
So bitch AFTER you clean your plate
    (that was for @rube LOL)

So Asian eat lots and lots and LOTS of seafood
    Why?
It's the only grocery store that isn't empty

    Now let that settle in

So so more than an entire millenia
    they have been calorically starved
rice yes. beans no. (their loss)
    No meat
One of the things I see commonly is a 1.5" x 1.5" x 1.4" cubes of pork belly... barely cooked at all with 70%+ fat
Because they can't get fat in their diets
Not possible. No bacon available.. except at 'western' hotels where .. I shit you not.. it is cooked in.. fish oil
aaaccckkarrrggghh and the bacon tastes like fish
They cook everything in fish oil
    it's all they have
I can't blame them, I'm thankful they have ANYTHING that I'll want to eat
which brings up "When traveling... eat whatever the host is eating"
He's not dying, you're not going to die so STFU and be respectful (as stated to Blue Eyes)
BTW Chinese spinach is waaaaaaaay better than US spinach. As in not even close.
I avoid it in the States and seek it out in China. Good shit man.

OK so they eat dogs. Yep. Not a surprise in the least. There truly is little else in rural locations. It's a bleak life. No birds in the sky. No land animals left. Only the fish in the sea which is precisely why their gubberment is full on hostile about controlling the South China Sea. And they have been starving for 1000+ years. You don't see that in Hong Kong.. nor Kowloon.. nor Shenzhen or Shanghai. But those who have been to many small villages... yep. Be thankful that as a Westerner you are being fed the best that they can and DO NOT ask about the'what; it is in your plate. Don't wanna know.

Only so much food to feed a planet of 7B
Most have no clue about the calories we American's take for granted
Nor do most American's have a clue about how hungry it is elsewhere

Now as kin of farmers I wouldn't eat my (working) dog but I'd totally raise a pig (named or not) and enjoy him for Christmas dinner.

What kind of cretin does that make me?
The kind that survives another generation.
