He was thinking about it. They moved on D'antoni before he had a chance to tell them and he was going to accept that job. That Lakers team that was built was designed to win a title immediately and Jackson would have been the perfect coach.

 

So far he has rid NY of most of their albatross contracts and that process will be complete this off-season when he will have plenty of cap room to actually build a good team. It's like what McKenzie did with the Raiders and now they have flexibility to get guys to get better.

 

Clarkson can be a good role player, and I think he will, but nothing more. With Dragic, Monroe, Love, Gasol, Aldridge, and Rondo all out there, the Lakers HAVE to move on someone to make their team look attractive for Durant in 2016.

 

Complete control roster wise AND to basically have a co- head coach that'd coach the team on road trips while he stayed home. That's just too much going on.

I'm not even gonna go after Phil for the job he's doing as GM. He inherited a roster with JR Smith on it..enough said. He deserves a real shot just like Jim does. The fact is, if Jim's CP3 trade isn't veto'd " everybody loves Jim " and a triangle offense and Phil Jackson's name would've never come up at all because Paul's not a triangle offense guy. Basically..Jim got screwed. The most anybody can say is that if Dr. Buss were running things he could've gotten the trade to go through based on respect alone, but Jim's not Dr. Buss..not a damn thing he can do about that. He's gonna have to cut his teeth the hard way..that's basically what other hater ass owners told him when they colluded to veto his trade.

 

With JR on it, and Amar'e, and That tall foreign white guy that makes like 11 million (Forgot his name, but he is useless), and numerous other shitty players.

and here's the really fucked up thing about what Phil did..he wanted full control over the roster. so get this..Jim and Mitch almost land Chris Paul in a deal for the ages, but they still end up with Dwight and Nash and these acquisitions intrigue Phil..yet Phil wants to come in and have complete control of a roster that he wouldn't even have interest in if it weren't for Jim and Mitch. see what i'm saying? but Phil can never do any wrong because he's a champion many times over and a legend and a huge figure head..man, Phil is fucked. God bless'em and i love'em, but he can be a dirty rat bastard. Phil never had that kind of control with the Lakers and he won 5 rings that way..he didn't even talk Kobe into staying throughout all the troubles with Shaq and what not..Dr. Buss talked Kobe into staying. in the end, Phil got what he wanted..complete control..over one of the saddest, sorriest franchises in all of sports.

now..on to the real tragedy of this veto'd Chris Paul deal. so, the NBA's owners get together and hash out a CBA that's basically anti-Lakers and telling big spendng clubs that they have to pay a major punitive luxury tax for having so much talent to spend on. Jim and Mitch say, " OK..we'll play by your rules and spend less "..a month later they make the deal for CP3 and save 40 million dollars in salary while doing so only for the league to say " wait!..you've saved too much money here! " utter bullshit. Lakers will be back. the front office got a raw deal, but they're still damn good. right now it's just obviously a rebuild. Dr.Buss had to rebuild once upon a time..it happens.

 

Dragic is about the same age as Rondo and he can play multiple roles..on ball, off ball..he's best fit with a Deangelo Russell ( who the Lakers should be targeting in the Top 5).

Aldridge is more of a possibility than Gasol. Monroe is more of a possibility than both. i doubt Durant is coming.

heavy on lefties, but it's a start. they won't have to overspend for Dragic or Monroe and the cap is rising as well, so when Kobe expires they'll have some more room to bring in some other young guys.

 

I might be an optimist, but look at OKC this year, even since Durant has been back, they still haven't been even close to one of the top teams in the conference and he wants to win, I think he is gone from OKC come 2016 and if he is, that the Lakers would be a strong contender for his services. That team outside of him and Westbrook is complete shit and in today's game, two players isn't nearly enough to win a title.

 

Everyone says Washington, but he has absolutely no emotional attachment to them like Lebron did to Cleveland. Coming out of high school the first thing Durant did was get the hell out of DC and went to Texas. When Durant hits FA, I think the Lakers will have as good a chance as anyone.

 

They do, but the fact that he got out of there after high school makes he thinks he doesn't want to go back there, ever.

and then they're fussing over the fact that Hardy was still paid during the season..like him missing the season doesn't mean much or something. he's about to take a hit in free agency because he missed the season and anytime you miss a whole year it stunts your play. i can't wait to see what Adrian Peterson looks like as well..he may never be the same either.
