Kershaw faced 749 batters, the major league leader in plate appearances has 722 as of this morning (Ian Kinsler). Your argument is invalid about how much he impacted the season, it's all a matter of how they are distributed. If you think roughly 4.5 per game for 160 has a bigger impact than 27.7 per game for 27, I don't know what to tell you.

I realize that a few other pitchers who have had good years and logged more innings have obviously faced more batters than Kershaw (Wainwright, Cueto, among others) this isn't to say those guys deserve consideration as well, it takes a truly remarkable season for a pitcher to get consideration.

A very powerful argument.....for why I wouldn't consider a DH for MVP either.

Sticking with Kinsler for illustrative purposes. Along with 722 PAs Kinsler played 1405 innings of defense, had 758 chances, 288 putouts and 461 assists. It's just a different grind to be out there daily instead of every 5th day and one I consider to have more value.

Don't try to act like anybody considers defense for any award, even gold gloves, if they did, Jeter wouldn't have more than one (maybe), every year he won except 2009 his defensive metrics were negative.

First, don't know how I missed Spud. My bad.

Second, I'm against a DH winning the MVP...he's only playing half the game. So in that light it does seem more likely for an NL pitcher to win an MVP than an AL pitcher, because he has to come to the plate. The AL pitchers get a hall pass on hitting and therefore don't deserve as much consideration as a Kershaw. Remember, Kershaw provided his own offense in several games this season.
