The Angels were probably just trying to drive up the price. Like that would bother the Dodgers. Pfft.

Answered my own question, her names Mai Satoda. She's pretty hot.

At least aspiring. She been rumored to prefer here but it wasn't a mandate for Tanaka-san to make it happen just a wish.

The front office has now said that they would like to sign one more starter. Looks like Beckett and/or Bills may be shown the door. It sounds like Tanaka is the FO's first choice, but ownership will need to sign off on the deal first. So this does not necessarily mean we are at our spending limit, but it may be that we are actually in the vicinity of it. Going to be very interesting to see how the next week plays out.

I completely agree about Kasten and GG knowing that they were going to eat the Beckett contract regardless... just part of the ante to be sitting at the owners table I'm sure.

If he comes back at all... its all upside.

Bills ... well arguments could be made if he was ever able to compete for the top 5 on this staff...especially with Tanaka

...and Laney's partner looks like a post-op tranny. Probably scary as fuck on the morning after without a 3 hour style session.

Damn. Am I going to have to give you the Koufax treatment?

Repeat after me: "NEVER had a losing season!"

Remember when Bills was supposed to be our Kershaw?

I like Bills and I hope he can do something good but I think next year isn't that year. He's coming back from a MAJOR injury and will probably be timid to really test it.

Not to mention before the injury the guy couldn't really put together a full season. He was always a first half wonder.

Um yeah, he has always been a pussy...

Had he agreed to have the surgery done 6 months earlier, rather than shiver and quake at the thought of it, we'd be talking about having him in ST and really knowing what he's got.

cbd, you can give me any treatment that you think you're up to delivering...

but in the case of justly maligned Billingsley, consecutive seasons of 12-11; 12-11; 11-11 and 10-9 are simply NOT numbers which assure continued employment in the era not defined by McCrook's parsimony... let alone consideration for any current Dodger SP role higher than #5

In Bills' last seven starts before he got hurt and was shelved in 2012, he went 6-0 (team won all 7) with a 1.80 ERA and a WHIP of 1.02. It seemed at the time that he had finally learned how to really "pitch," as opposed to merely throwing pitches. I'm not giving up faith that he can get back to that. Not right out of the gate after his surgery, but hopefully not too soon thereafter.

That's not to say I wouldn't be thrilled with acquiring Tanaka if it were to happen as a team could never have too many quality starters. Just don't throw Bills in the trash heap yet.

There remains a wide gulf between Bills being thrown in the trash heap versus counting on him to go full time as our #5 starter.

    A very wide gulf.

We should keep him, we paid for him anyways, and watch his progress coming back from surgery and then, when its too late for him to be of much use anyways, then see if he can get anyone out in AA before thinking he's good enough to be counted on in the playoffs.

signing tanaka would enable bills (and possibly beckett) to work out of the pen

as for the future beyoned 2014...
beckett is gone after this season
same with haren (unless he throws 180 innings, something he hasn't done the last two years)
and there's no way we'll pick up bills $14MM option

kersh/zack/ryu/tanaka still leaves a spot for us to move up lee or stripling
