i don't doubt it, however, we haven't had a + defensive outfielder in some time. regardless, Ethier can play a decent CF. they could hold on to him for a tick. just don't count me as somebody who believes Joc Pederson would hold up a Price trade. hell, they'd groom Puig if they had to.

i never said move CC to CF, but i am interested in you showing me CC's remarks in black and white. just doesn't seem legit.

Donnie said it multiple times during the season that Crawford wasn't an option for CF for these reasons.

Team that talked to #Phillies reports only way they'd trade Lee/Hamels is in "win-win" scenario. Take none of $. Get huge return. Unlikely

Rosenthal just said there are execs that compare Trumbo to Reynolds.

Trading Crawford is the dream scenario. You'd get the least back and it'd be harder on the farm to turn and get Price or someone like him, but you'd almost be alright with it if it means you keep Kemp and Ethier.

Kemp to Seattle is something I would continue exploring, if we can add Franklin that'd be huge.

And I completely disagree with those saying to keep all four from the injuries perspective, especially if you also keep Joc. SVS will be on the roster and would be a fantastic platoon OF, and if someone goes down for a lengthy period of time you give Joc a cup of coffee.

It'll be very interesting to see what Ned does if Uribe leaves the picture. It sounds like he'll have to make a trade.

    hmmm, fwiw...
    • The Indians are willing to listen on Asdrubal Cabrera, reports Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports (Twitter links). As Morosi notes, Cleveland has a potential franchise shortstop on the horizon in Francisco Lindor. Their willingness to shop Cabrera isn't surprising given Lindor's presence, Cabrera's $10MM salary in 2014 and the fact that Cabrera slumped to a .242/.299/.402 batting line in 2013.

CC should be last option...he's indeed better off in left, but moreso to hide his arm somewhat. he's a plus fielder there anyway.

    the argument for jamey wright...

    Come On Back, Jamey Wright
by Mike Petriello | Mike Scioscia's Tragic Illness

Hey, remember Jamey Wright? This is not a rhetorical question. I’m literally asking if you remember that Jamey Wright exists on this planet and once pitched for the Dodgers. In fact, not only did he pitch for the Dodgers, but he was the only reliever to stick on the active roster in 2012 from Opening Day through Game 162.

He’s approximately 75 years old (okay, 39 on Christmas Eve), he’s famously made teams in each of the last nine seasons without a guaranteed contract… and he’s relevant because Ken Rosenthal reports that he’s currently choosing between the Dodgers and the Rays, for whom he pitched in 2013. Wright hasn’t signed with a new team before January since 2004, so my guess is that if he’s choosing between offers this soon and has more than one, it’s a major league deal for once.

Wright is fantastically unexciting, so you’ll be excused if you hope he chooses Tampa Bay. But before you root on that too hard, know these two things:

    1) The Dodgers have only three-and-a-half relievers right now...

Kenley Jansen and Brian Wilson are locks, and Chris Withrow is pretty close. Paco Rodriguez is too, though I’m more than a little worried by how badly he finished the year. (Hence the half.) I suppose Brandon League is as well, but I try to pretend he doesn’t exist.

And then… what? Scott Elbert will be on the disabled list. Jose Dominguez missed so much time that he could easily start in Triple-A, and Onelki Garcia is so inexperienced. Javy Guerra is still floating around, I guess. When Ned Colletti says things like “three more relievers,” well, you can understand why.

    2) ...and Wright is better than you think he is.

Again, guys in their late-30s who don’t throw hard and bounce to new teams every year as NRIs are far from flashy. But Wright somehow keeps improving. I mean, his K/9 went from 4.36 (!) in 2010 with Cleveland and Seattle to 6.32 in 2011 with Seattle to 7.18 in 2012 with the Dodgers to 8.36 in 2013 with Tampa…. and he dropped his BB/9 below three for the first time ever last year. His FIP marks the last two years have been 3.39 and 3.13; his ERA the last three years is 3.32.

He’s not throwing harder; if anything, he’s throwing softer than ever. What he’s done is nearly entirely ditch his traditional fastball in favor of a cutter, and incorporating a changeup that he rarely used before:

Now if it turns out he’d rather be a Ray, that’s fine. I won’t mourn him too much, by which I mean “at all”. But I can’t imagine he’s coming for anything more than a year at under $2m at his age, and he’s showed continued — hell, improved — utility while throwing 60 games or more in five of the last six years. That’s a guy every team could use. It’s especially a guy this team could use, with their bullpen uncertainty. And if he comes in and turns into a pumpkin? Well, then you DFA him, because the cost will be (presumably) so minimal.

You know what? That works for me.

D-Backs, White Sox, Angels Talking Three-Team Deal
By Steve Adams [December 10 at 10:50am CST]

ESPN's Keith Law reports (via Twitter) that the Mark Trumbo talks between the Diamondbacks and Angels have expanded to include the White Sox, with a potential framework sending Adam Eaton to Chicago and Hector Santiago and Tyler Skaggs to the Angels.

Parting with Skaggs and Eaton would be a steep price to pay in order to play Trumbo out of position at a corner outfield spot, but reports have indicated that the D-Backs are "determined" to leave Orlando with either Trumbo or Shin-Soo Choo in tow, and the financial commitment required to add Choo would be significant. Adding Skaggs and Santiago would be a tremendous win for Angels GM Jerry Dipoto, who has been in the market for controllable young starters for months.

By Steve Adams [December 10 at 11:25am CST]

The Pirates are resuming their talks about a potential signing of James Loney, reports ESPN's Buster Olney (on Twitter).

Loney was said to be a top target of the Pirates last week, but reports shortly thereafter surfaced, suggesting that the former Ray is looking for a three-year deal worth as much as $30MM. The lefty swinger enjoyed a nice rebound campaign with the Rays in 2013, hitting .299/.348/.430 with 13 homers and his typical brand of strong defense at first base. Since that time, the Pirates have been connected to Logan Morrison in trade talks, though interest on that front was most recently said to be "mild."

It seems like every year, the Diamondbacks try some new approach at building their franchise. Feel like they have no real direction.

Whoa, so that deal with the D'Backs is getting big
    Backs get: Trumbo and prospects
    Angels get: Skaggs and Santiago
White Sox get: Kendrick and Eaton

If Kendrick is in that deal to the Sox, then that could take out a major suitor for Uribe.
