Apparently Hillman was a yes man because he should have challenged him on some of the mistakes he made. I love it when I hear about bench coaches are vital and yet this bench coach thing hasn't been around since the beginnings of baseball it's a recent thing. Sure the old time managers had maybe a guy he trusts on his staff i.e pitching/1st/3rd base coaches but they made the decisions basically alone. How ever did they do that without a bench coach!!!!!!! You win all of your cases (games) without any help. What a fucking nightmaaare!!!!!!!!

 

Lasorda had Russell. It's been around for a long time and it should be. I get the impression Hillman called most the shots and Don went with it...I guess we'll see this season if things are different or not.

 

They should do it during the game telecast a la Boras...

 

I think in Russells case Tommy was grooming him for the job.

 

WTF does it all matter? It's so simple, so dress rehearsed.
Just pick out some nice gowns, have some cool bobblehead nights, have a game Down Under, pick up a few ex-Giants (like my favorite LAD ever, Wilson I hope), get a couple of more utility players on the cusp of retirement, extend Ned to 2020, make a drastic change at some uber important poisition like bullpen phone answering guy, and be bridesmaids for the fucking umpteeth time.

Not to kick a dead horse, but I would actually love Bruce Boche to manage the Dodgers. He seems to be able to get the best out of mid-level players. Wonder what he could do with a lineup like the Dodgers.
