That is a nasty contract...a Bor-ass special. But the other shoe hasn't dropped yet. The Nats were rumored not to have the finances for Scherzer without trading a player or two away...including Zimmerman. It could be something will happen soon, or this is a one-year, swing for the fences move.

There's something about the Nats that bugs. Maybe it's Jason Werth's presence on that team.

Yup, you nailed it. The team seems riddled with "personalities".

they'll probably find it easier trading Strasburg with him not hitting the open market until after 2016. whomever trades for Zimmermann is gonna be faced with forkin over 160+M after this year and maybe even losing him after a season of service.

then again, Strasburg's agent is Boras, so maybe that evens things up a lil.

So much for Ethier to the Cubs..they traded for Dexter Fowler instead.

Not sure we had anyone on par with Werth and Harper. Puig just seems to bug other players, but he never skipped out on fan fest days because of a contract dispute.
Werth seems to be a genuinely bad guy off the field.
As far as the Dodgers, sounds like Kemp was the only problem team wise. Hanley was just going to cost too much and we needed better defense.

Getting Scherzer is a pitching game changer but last year against the Gnats they couldn't hit water if they fell out of a boat. Then they lose LaRoche so I don't think they'll be trading Desmond and I really believe they'll go for it this year and hope J. Zimmermann will stay.

I hope the Nats are stupid enough to trade Stras.

The rest of his quote was that the Dodgers have been active in trades this offseason, however, and one might think they could easily pursue an upgrade there rather than paying for an established late-inning type in free agency. I'd rest easy.

There are always going to be 7 year deals to 30+ year olds nowadays so I'm not shocked at all and nobody else should either but I agree it's too long. Having wrote that I believe if it brings a title in the short term then it'll be worth it to some uber rich owners out there.

I wonder if any thought was given to using Bedard out of the pen?

    agreed
it's what the market will bear
    supply and demand
if you want a scherzer for 3-4 years, you're going to also have to pay for years 5-7 as well
    but caveat emptor...
