Idk if this why he said it, but itd say that for being an insider article (one where you pay a monthly fee for) it was quite short. I agree with you that it was positive on the kid, loved what they said about him but I was honestly thinking it was gonna be a bit lengthier.
^I just didnt think it was a very rich article, it was mostly just Larkin's opinions. Game related: Sellers needs to be on this roster.
OK, I never thought of that...I guess it's not that much info. But Larkin is somebody whose opinion does hold some water , I would say. BTW, I think Arron Harang is going to be meh this year. maybe flat out suck. I never liked him, and I thought we handled him pretty damn easily when we played against him. I never saw what the hoopla was all about. Hope I'm wrong on this. Guess I'll ask Ned...he knows all these secrets and stuff... I think Sellers has made some nice offensive adjustments this ST so far. His glove is beautiful and smooth. He compliments Loney. If it's between, say Sands and him for a roster spot, I'd rather see Sands play every day in AAA.
Yeah he hasn't been the same since Orlando Hudson left. Misses the contact after hitting a homerun and returning to the dugout. Is bouncing back as he has found a trainer who has the touch that Hudson did and it is working magic for him.
Pretty much the Dodgers B team (w/Gordon and Ellis x2) vs the Anals B team (w/Pujols and Haren). Game starting right now. Ha! Adam Kennedy hitting cleanup again and playing 1B. What's the deal?
Rivera is playing well and we may need a right handed bat to also play and back up Loney at first. Sands goes down and Rivera in right against lefties so Kennedy may be the man. Also Dejesus is playing well and yes Kennedy is under contract but his future in the middle may be in doubt. DBB likes Sellers and Dejesus. There was a recent article about the squeeze and Dejesus being blocked.
I suspect Sands is going down to the minors, unless he has some kind of self-realization and suddenly starts to hit the (bleeping) baseball. So, for now, Rivera and Gwynn are probably in rotation in LF. Ethier is hitting both arms and having a great spring. Kemp is amazing, of course. However, there's still room for another big bat out there. A power hitter could send Rivera and Gwynn to the bench where they probably belong (if we are talking about putting together a championship team). I don't know who the new home run hitting Dodger OF'er would be - but there's room. New money and new GM would make such things possible. Wouldn't it be great to have a big man hitting behind Kemp? Should be do-able. Ideally Ethier moves to left at that point. Infield? Rivera behind Loney works for awhile @ 1B, particularly if BGJ can't get his bat up again . But Loney's days are numbered - if we want to win it all, that is. And all these damn second basemen types. We are very good up the middle for now. What we need is a 3Bman who hits. Top priority. There's probably a good reason they haven't been trying Sands @3B in a Trumbo-like move. You need a tough guy with good hands to play 3rd. So, a couple of big moves must be on the horizon. Maybe a handful of these blue chips for a genuine 3Bman who rakes. And we could use a couple of aces, too.
As everyone knows I am a Loney fan and with the way he ended last year and the spring he is having along with DBB being a fan right now I don't think anyone is going to let him go unless he starts to slide again. There is enough need for improvement elsewhere and as you say a play for a third baseman and possibly left is in the cards at some point.
Well, James is re-signed, so there you go. We lost out on Fielder to the insane people in Detroit. That, of course, would have been a spectacular acquisition. It's possible to make up Loney's lack of HR power in other places - as it was done with Jeff Kent. But I agree, as things are now, we can get by with Loney and Rivera for awhile as the team has other more important holes to fill. Winning it all requires mucho power and ace pitching. That is, unless Kemp has a 70/70 season and Kershaw has a 30 win season - then we can win it all with Ned's scrubs.
some interesting potential fa's in 2013 -- at spots we could use upgrades at... c, miguel montero, age 29 1b, mike napoli, age 31 2b, brandon phillips, age 32 3b, david wright, age 30 of, josh hamilton, age 32 rhp, matt cain, age 28 lhp, cole hamels, age 29 could you imagine a starting rotation of ck, cain, hamels, bills and zach lee?
Try de la rosa. Lee isn't going to be ready next season, and if he is, they're still going to baby him like they did with Kershaw.
