“It’s hard for me to put into words what it means to be named manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers,” Roberts said in a news release. “This is truly the opportunity of a lifetime. "The Dodgers are the ground-breaking franchise of Jackie Robinson, Roy Campanella, Sandy Koufax, Maury Wills, Fernando Valenzuela and Hideo Nomo. When I put on this uniform as a player, I understood the special responsibility to honor those that played before me as well as the amazing bond between the Dodgers and their fans. I feel that I have now come full circle in my career and there is plenty of unfinished business left in L.A.”
I know people are just kidding about the racist stuff when describing me but just so y'all know I was born in Yokosuka Naval Hospital to a Japanese mother and a father who was a Navy man. Dave was born in Okinawa to a Japanese mother and a father who was in the Army. So I can relate. Anyway.....Come on down Kenta Maeda? Okay that was borderline racist.
Borderline because he is Japanese but I put the smiley face to show I was kidding. I was thinking Maeda could see us a destination because of the fellow Nihongine being our new Manager. If he's posted.
Missing the point I only mentioned his ethnicity becasuse I have something in common with the guy and that it's our FIRST ethic Manager in HISTORY. This is a very significant hire. I get it he has to perform but I didn't want to be Captain obvious.
In his playing days he was known on the board I used to post on as "Pigpen", because I don't think he ever took the field without getting his uniform dirty. Before the game was over his uni was gonna be a mess.
Interesting...probably not so appropriate any more, since he's pushing the buttons...a name may surface as time goes on, and developes a managing " style". Like Torre's "destroy all arms" approach, for instance. What about NZ's suggestion (sort of suggestion, anyway)... DumDum Redux? Way too soon? Actually, the guy sounds intelligent.
I think he played prior to your arrival on the baseball scene But those of us that saw him play w the Dodgers know he was a smart aggressive ballplayer Not sure if he can translate that into success as a manager but Im giving the benefit of the doubt to the baseball men that vetted him Or he could have just given the interview of his life but I have to think he will at least manage w imagination and toughness Thats a big improvement over the previous regime and worth a shot Ill take it over a recycle like Dusty or a a non Dodger
