    Near it, you mean? ;)

They should do one with Hatcher and Baez ( and now Fein) pitching.... everyone wins!

If a team enters the ninth inning ahead, regardless of the very poor offensive statistics of that team that night, whether ahead by one or three runs, the closer is there to do his job. He failed. He is by definition, "the closer'.
He absolutely should take the rap.
Idk if he ignored the press last night, etc, but I would bet he would say the same.

True, I was more referring to their teams with Adrian & Peavy. I know the Gwynn led Padres ran into the stacked Yankees in 98. Every NL West team has a more recent WS apperance than us...that's not depressing.

Yeah, the opportunity presented itself, and went poof...I don't see the Pads sweeping the SFCS, even if we win today, that other game gained is gone. But if it stays at 5.5, then it's a step on the right direction...
There is plenty of bb left to do it. If we can knock off a game per week, on a month or so, we are sitting pretty.

Exactly. Offense sucked and definitely doesn't get a pass, but the idea is to get the ball to your closer with the lead and go home. All the previous innings are irrelevant at that point. Hopefully the Dodgers bounce back today so we can forget about it.

Hopefully that Jake Lamb fucker gets traded to an AL team at the deadline.

Yeah I'm pretty glad the DBacks hilariously failed in their attempt at creating a good rotation cause they have some offensive pieces that could be damn good

Still have no idea why they went all in on trying to get elite pitchers but relying on just 2. Should've probably done something similar to the Dodgers and just gotten a lot of middle of the pack guys

Yeah, that Miller deal is one of the worst MLB trades I've seen in a long time and they definitely have to be scared that Greinke is already experiencing injuries in year 1 of a 6 year contract. Didn't realize Lamb is just 25....he's going nowhere unfortunately.

Relative to a perfect game, a cycle is cute. No doubt about it. A 2 HR + 2 Double, or 3 HR game also better, and those are fairly common in comparison.

As far as rarity, I think you meant no-hitter, not perfect game.

But who knew about Miller sucking elephant johnson? I read more than one or two posts on here that we should have him in our sights...it just turned out badly, so far.
They knew they had a good lineup...why not go for top tier pitching? Lamb, Goldboy, Pollack, Drury...solid. Some teams just wanna win, so they thought Z and Miller were the pieces to the puzzle.
They are douchebags, no doubt, but I could see why they thought they were gonna be the fat cats.
Since the future is front and center with so many, maybe next year looks good for them. I hope not.

    Dodgers Sunday lineup:
    Kendrick LF
    Seager SS
    Turner 3B
    Van Slyke 1B
    Puig CF
    Taylor 2B
    Ellis C
    Walters RF
    Maeda P

I'd be mad but, wtv, against a lefty... Not many good options at the moment

Yeah Beltran could help some here
1 thing I don't like is Yasmani sitting, he's been good against LHP, I know it's an early day, but still

    yes and no
sure i blame kenley for not getting the job done
but if seager/svs don't fuck up on the bases
and the offense does better than 1-for-15 with risp
    then it's all moot
lots of blame to go around for yesterday's loss imo
tough to pin it all on one guy

Chief culprit was the 1-15. Clutch hit or two erases a lot of base running stupidity.

    nice balance
    :sarcasm:
could easily see howie/corey/jt going a collective 12-for-15
and the rest of the lineup going o-fer

If you can't score more than 1 run against the D-Bags when you scored 13 on them the other day, the problem was not the pitching.

Depends if his back was to blame for his falloff, or if he simply regressed to the player he actually is.
