Lost in all the balk ramblings by Harold Reynolds, how good is Urias's move to 1B?

Wow, I didn't realize it was so good. That's usually something pitchers develop as they've been in the league for a while, not something you expect from a just-20 year old. I'm not an expert on balks, but it seems like if his move is a balk it's a balk by inches and can be ironed out in a short amount of time - it's that head move home that really makes it devastating. That move is part of the reason Werth wasn't even close to scoring on Zimmerman's double.

Harold Reynolds rambling about a balk was just excruciating. Just shut up about it. His leg kick crossing "the plane" of his other leg was by an inch at most, and the camera angle may also have had something to do with it. Bottom line, it wasn't clear enough to the umps to call it a balk. Other bottom line, that makes it one of the nastiest pick off move in the majors. Fooled good base runners when they weren't even thinking about stealing.

All by someone who is so young. I mean the balls to make that kind of pick off in Game 5 of your first playoff game?!?!

I think we have a real wonder in Urias. That is what Reynolds should be rambling about.

I thought about that too. Everything we saw on TV was at an angle, and it was it was hard to definitively tell. If the Nationals thought it was a clear balk, Dusty should have been out there arguing with the umpires. Nevertheless, that move is nasty and it doesn't rely on that inch or two from his front leg.

I've been grinning like an idiot all day. I've never seen a team visibly will itself to victory so selflessly in baseball maybe ever, namely Kershaw and Kenley.

I hope these idiots get it done.

Does anyone know if FS1 ever replays a game. I want to get another recording of the game...even if it is a shortened version of it.

Pretty sure arguing a balk by a manager is an automatic ejection, just like arguing balls ans strikes.

Is that true? Honestly, my knowledge of balks is minimal at best.

BTW, the post game interview with Werth in the locker room...talking about the send to home, I couldn't help but notice there are a TON of bottles of something behind him the the locker. I mean a TON.

    Hmmmmm......:scratchchin:

I've heard that, but scouring the rule book I can't find.

Urias' move straddles the line. Hope he keeps doing it until he gets busted.

Joe Biemel had a similar move. Thought he balked all the time.

    it's such a fine line
but, as i recall, the language of the rule itself is flawed
something in there about "not deceiving the runner"
lol isn't that exactly what you want to do?

No doubt, keep doing it until someone tells you to stop. But if it's just a matter of an inch or two with his front leg, I'm sure he can iron out that move in one preseason of practice without losing to much on his pitches home, and the move to first should be just as devastating.

I love that our two franchise pitchers do so much so well, Kershaw also with a devastating move. Last night I was expecting Kershaw to try a pickoff move with Murphy up, get a cheap out while the Nats try to get an extra big lead to score the winning run.

That's definitely the spirit behind the balk rule, but lefties especially go way beyond that. It is what it is.

If you'll recall, Kershaw had no move when he first came up.

Something to else to love about him. His game is constantly evolving and hopefully this will rub off (no homo) on Urias.

A bit of a contrast to Gibson's fist pump, but the same emotion.

I can't find video but people said he barely touched 2B he was so pumped and that he jumped super high to high five the 3B coach

His celebration in the dugout was nuts too. Joc was HUGE the last two games of this series.
