It's a 2003 Hyundai Elantra. I've considered changing the fuel pump for a while - the fuel filter has never been changed, and needs it anyway, swapping out the whole unit looks way easier than digging in for the filter and that way I replace the filter, pump, and sensor. I figure it's 50/50 that that will also fix the check engine light. Downside is that assembly still costs almost $300 even if I replace it myself, and the light could be totally unrelated. It would be nice to know what is actually triggering the light. I didn't know if there was a trick to just getting past the light for a smog check - like the light goes off for a bit if you disconnect-reconnect the battery, but I think the smog check computer will reject that as well... not sure.
I am only half mexican. So it wont get you very far. You need a paisa, not a pocho. Wrong type of mexican.
I have always wanted to buy a sensor reader. One that tells you the code and all that. Then with youtube you can figure out how to install pretty much anything.

Yeah, I'm somewhat aware of President Duterte and the extreme action he has been taking in the Phillipines, mainly regarding his war on drugs. Doing drugs definitely won't be happening on this trip, mainly because I don't do them lol. Also, it sounds like our VP and another person in leadership will be coming on the trip too, which makes me feel a bit more comfortable. I don't plan on spending too much time away from the hotel. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to get out and explore some of the culture but I'' not sure this is the best place to do that. Thanks for the info Diablo. I did read up a bit on Davao being a pretty nice coastal city and I believe we're looking at trying to stay at a 4 star hotel for sure. I had no clue the oresident currently resides there. Not sure if that makes it safer or more dangerous haha. I definitely won't be going out of my way to make problems though. I'll mainly keep to myself and won't really get too friendly with any strangers I meet in public. I do hope to get out a bit in the city and have a good time, but I'll defineitely be playing it safe.
i hope you do explore bro thats the fun of travel my concerns were after hearing general info from the natives about areas that are NOT where you are going maybe don't be out too late at night alone but during the day explore mate this is going to be total culture shock but i really hope you take the time to try and communicate w locals tagalog is latin based and if you know any spanish you have a jump on it trying the local food and non tourist stuff is where its at and fiipinos are friendly and educated people for the most part your experience will be totally different if you show interest in learning about there home you never said what the work was or when you are going was checking and tickets are cheap right now i might even be up for coming there during your visit i need something fun to do lol
Make sure you go to Subic Bay, and tell any local there you want to get " screwed, blewed ( or blued) and tattooed"...your choice ! Tell us about it when you get back. If.
I absolutely want to explore and experience the culture, don't get me wrong. I am going for work though, so I'm just not sure how much time I'll have to actually go out and experience some of the local spots. I'm 100% looking forward to trying some authentic food though. The company I work for is moving some of our customer service functionality over to the Philippines. I'm the trainer for all of our customer service specialists and I communicate all the updates and changes that directly impact our members on a daily basis. So I have to go over there to train the offshore staff on how to use our systems and respond to all sorts of different member inquiries and whatnot.
True, but a lot of times a new cap will fix that. 02 sensors are another usual suspect. Why don't have a local independent shop guy turn the light off right before you take it to get smogged?
Piety? Really? On DSP?? Any trick can be tried but my experience is that 'turning off' an engine alarm (anything that trips the idiot light) will only matter until the next time the car is started and then the startup diagnostics will trigger the light again unless the trigger source is removed. The OBD2 codes are standard across the industry, all mechanics know about them and a great many are trivial to handle. So get the code, free is possible, then figure out what is required. A hose. A gas cap. A sensor. Midas advertises on the radio that they will tell you the codes for free. Find a Midas (Do NOT give them business) and let them tell you the code. You 'may' be able to fix it with a $9 part from Autozone. You won't know without the code. Otherwise you're just shooting in the dark.
