Alvarez tonight, 4 IP, 1 H, 1ER 3 BB 3K Edwin Rios 1-2, Grand Slam(4), BB. He's quietly been one of the best hitters in the system this year and has reduced his K rate. Verdugo 4-6 1 BB, 1 K Calhoun 2-7, 2 K's Joe Broussard 2 IP 1 BB, 5 K's (14 IP on the season, 5 H, 5 BB and 22 K's). Could be a bullpen arm to watch, had a great 2016.
What a well written set of reviews. and I now consider Rios mostly trade bait or at best a remote 3B option behind Turner if he hits the DL
Here is a more recent blurb about him http://www.minorleagueball.com/2017...ct-edwin-rios-making-it-look-easy-in-double-a
Write up on Alvarez and Peters. Some good things are said. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=31747
Edwin Rios and Calhoun look like two guys with some intriguing power potential but no idea if it can stick in the big league level and what defense they can play. Hopefully they continue to do well cause they're two guys I wouldn't mind shipped for a good piece at the deadline. Could easily see one traded for a solid right handed reliever
⚡️Zaidi Friedman@TrueBlueDoyers #Dodgers prospect Dustin May @d_maydabeast went 5 IP 1R 3H 5K for @greatlakesloons last night. He has allowed just 3R over his last 22 IP
You really think that? You didn't mix the 2 up? Rios is the more athletic of the 2 and definitely the more developed physically even though Rios is still in Tulsa. They both have issues in the field to put it mildly.
A.J. Alexy throws five scoreless innings in Loons 2-1 win by Craig Minami | True Blue LA — 5 hours ago A good day for the Dodger minor league affiliates with three out of four picking up wins. Oklahoma City and Rancho Cucamonga were able to win somewhat comfortably while Great Lakes played a tight one-run game. On the other hand, Tulsa could not generate any offense and took the lone loss. Player of the day 2016 11th round pick A.J. Alexy had his longest outing in his short career. The recently turned the Loons 19-year old right-handed pitcher threw five scoreless innings and gave just one hit, one walk and he struck out three. Triple-A Oklahoma City The Dodgers won behind another solid Jair Jurrjens start defeating the Round Rock Express (Rangers) 6-2 on Sunday. Jurrjens had another six innings start, his fifth in six starts, and he allowed two runs and nine hits. He struck out seven without issuing a walk. Madison Younginer got a three-inning save by retiring all nine batters he faced and recording four strikeouts along the way. Charlie Culberson and recently acquired Max Muncy hit home runs. Culberson and Drew Maggi each had three hits. Scott Van Slyke was 1-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. Double-A Tulsa The Drillers could not do much at the plate in their 4-1 loss to the Springfield Cardinals. Tulsa’s one run was the result of one of their two hits, a solo homer by Mike Ahmed. Edwin Rios had the other hit, a single in the first inning. Isaac Anderson gave up three runs (two earned) in his four innings of work. Ralston Cash allowed the other run in his two innings. Yaisel Sierra finished the game with three scoreless innings, retiring all nine batters he faced, four by strikeout. Class-A Rancho Cucamonga The Quakes were able to beat both the weather and the Inland Empire 66ers (Angels) on Sunday and thus, split their four-game series with a 6-0 win at LoanMart Field. Per a source, scheduled starting pitcher Yadier Alvarez was sent home due to a personal reason. The Quakes gave the ball to right-handed pitcher Ryan Moseley and he stepped in and did a fine job with both the situation and the weather. Ah, the weather, for the first three, four innings, there was a steady drizzle and a strong wind in the area. The wind was blowing in from right field and in one case, it stopped a 101 MPH exit velocity ball from being a home run and turned it into a somewhat routine fly out. Back to Moseley, he pitched four innings, allowed two hits and walked one. He also struck out three. Andrew Istler, who got the win, pitched three innings, gave up three hits and struck out two. Alex Hermeling finished up with a two-inning stint where he walked one but then got a double play to end up facing the minimum six batters. The Quakes opened the scoring when with two out in the first, Luke Raley and Yusniel Diaz singled and then on ball four to Ibandel Isabel, the pitch got away and Raley scored from second. In the bottom of the fourth, still with the weather a factor, the Quakes scored four runs and the first three scored on two fielder choices and a walk. The fourth run scored on Luke Raley’s single. Logan Landon hit a solo home run in the seventh to cap the scoring. The Quakes did have 12 hits, Raley had three hits. Ariel Sandoval and Landon each had two. Class-A Great Lakes The Loons and the Peoria Chiefs (Cardinals) were locked into a good old-fashioned pitching duel until a 1-1 tie was broken by Cody Thomas and the Loons won 2-1. After the Chiefs tied the game in the top of the seventh, Cody Thomas hit his fifth home run of the year to break that tie and that run was the difference in the game. Thomas has had a slow start in his first full season of professional baseball, he is hitting .204/.278/.388 in 98 at-bats. Thomas has struck out 37 times while walking 10 times. The Loons scored first when Gage Green doubled home Keibert Ruiz. The Chiefs tied the game on a one-out home run by Matt Davis. After Alexy pitched his five scoreless innings, Willian Soto gave up the tying run but then he got the win. Soto pitched three innings and Sven Schuller finished up with one inning to get the save. Transactions Triple-A: Oklahoma City placed right-handed pitcher Steve Geltz on the 7-day disabled list; right-handed pitcher Layne Somsen assigned to Oklahoma City from Extended Spring Training.
Yadier Alvarez our Cuban version of Walker Buehler (who has yet to pitch in Tulsa) left the team yesterday for personal reasons which has me a bit worried. Possibly homesick or maybe a death in the family, stay tuned.
I don't think it's *that* hard to just be a bad 2B and still be a good player but obviously he's gonna have to hit really well... which he's never not done.
